I can't remember the last time I paid the full 'recommended retail price' for a VST or a VSTi.

Coupled with Larry's forum, other audio and DAW-related sites, and the numerous offers that regularly drop into my Inbox, it seems to be utter madness to ever fork out top dollar for any of the toys of the trade.

I know some companies rarely (if at all) discount, so if you've purchased their stuff that doesn't really count. But it would seem that a little patience can prove extremely financially rewarding over time.

Mind you, I suppose on the down side, perceived 'bargain' prices do mean we end buying a lot of stuff simply because it's on offer, and never end up using it at all.

My weakness is deals on hardware...  I just got £500 worth of digital wireless packs for £149, because it's last years discontinued model...  and I need them for stage..

I needed 2 more headset mics to go with it, but they're £100 each.  But you get 2 in the kit... so another £149 later and I've got the mics £50 cheaper than normal and another 4 channels of digital wireless absolutely free!!!

I don't buy much and what I do buy is discounted.  The upside is that saving $100 on something I didn't want makes that $100 available for something I do want

I paid full price for The Glue because it never goes on sale. However the upshot was that my purchase qualified me for a discount on The Drop, which I also purchased (and wouldn't have purchased at full price).

I can't be sure but I think I also paid full price for Trilian as well. Retail, boxed.

No.  Not for a long time, I have not.

Plug-in pricing reminds me of watch pricing where watches that go for $50-100 will have a list price of $500 or whatever to make the buyer feel like they are getting a fancy watch for cheap.

I have to wonder what people who pay full price for the Waves bundles feel when they realize that the bundles are usually available discounted for ridiculously low compared to list price.  For example, Platinum lists for $1999 but it seems to pop up a lot on random sites for more like $500.  That would seriously hurt to pay that much extra but I guess if you have that much to drop on a plug-in bundle, maybe you don't care.

Omnisphere and LFO Tool come to mind of basically never being on sale.

Yes, I pay full price, as long as they are free.

A couple of years ago, I paid full price for EW's Gypsy.. It was $400.
Less than a month later it went to half off. , then buy one get one...

So much for that.

a year later, I paid full price for NI's Komplete 9.  I only did that because I didn't have Kontakt and wanted Battery as well (basically the price of the whole package).  I've been totally happy with that purchase.
I've also upgraded to Komplete 10 ($95.00), which felt like a steal.
Now, I just troll the forum waiting to see what's coming down the pike.
I figure guys like CCLarry will keep me from spending an arm and a leg.
