What survey was this?  From Presonus or Cakewalk.

Sonar >>>>>>>>>Studio 1 in loop based, EDM, composition.  Working with loops is very underrated in Sonar.  Sure it's not like Live but you can lay down some ideas quite fast in Sonar.

A PreSonus survey for owners of S1v2 licenses who refused to upgrade to v3 for whatever reason(s). I posted it here because a number of SONAR users also have S1.

Somehow S1 sounds like a serious disease in that context... possibly because I'm bing watching Scrubs instead of finishing that Flame Studios guitar for Kontakt I've been putting off for a month... I hate you Scrubs and now I have S1 which might be lethal... Well off to drink tea and watch Scrubs...

ok, I admit it. I was the one that pointed out on the Presonus site that S1v2 wasn't listed as an option.
I use Sonar for 95% of everything, but S1v2 for mobile recording, because I use a McBook for mobile...

S1v2 does everything I need it to.  I'm sure v3 is way way better, but I just don't see the point of laying out yet more money for something I simply don't need.

But according to the survey I filled in, I only use 1 DAW, because S1v2 was not listed as an option.

Ah yes, now I remember that it was you...

It was something that really stood out to me which is why I mentioned it here.  The email from Presonus was stuck in my spam folder for a few days so I didn't realize I'd also be taking the survey, but now that I have, the absence of S1 in the second DAW category was obvious.  There were a few explanations suggested on the S1 forums for this but it still "felt" odd to me if the purpose was to gauge v2 users that hadn't upgraded.   Ah well, v2 still does what I need it to do.

I do love developers who allow 3rd party vendors to discount upgrades.  Sony doesn't do this and I'm still on Soundforge 10 and Vegas 10.

One of the things I used to teach many moons ago was "Survey Design for Six Sigma". Clueless peeps would come into that class thinking they were going to learn how to use those fancy Six Sigma statistical tools to put the stamp of authenticity and credibility on their self-serving surveys. Boy, were they surprised. Good thing my contracts specified no refunds after the start of class!

It puzzles me how a sophisticated (one assumes) company deliberately limits its sales and strategic growth opportunities by focusing on one sector of possible users: those making loop-based EDM on tablets. Haven't they got anyone in Marketing with broader ambitions and horizons?
I like a lot of features of S1 and sometimes use it for audio-only projects, (as MIDI has always been given short shrift in S1), but I've never felt I 'belonged'.

You are completely wrong on this as I pointed out in another thread here.  Studio One is not focused or limited to EDM music being produced on tablets at all.  That limitation is in your thinking.

I and many others use it for a huge range of styles and yes even professionally.  It can basically do whatever you want with it.  Most of us are running super powered desk top systems too.  It is also not for audio only projects either.   I have a powerful external midi hardware setup and use a lot of VST's too.  Watch the Groove 3 video on midi production in Studio One and you will see.  It handles all that very well.  Midi features are much deeper than most Sonar users think.  In some areas superior.

Also V3 is way better than V2.  Anyone thinking otherwise is simply wrong or out of touch.

Sonar users who use Sonar as their primary DAW and use Studio One as a secondary DAW will always know Sonar very well and not quite know Studio One as well as the primary Studio One users.  In many cases not know it very well at all. The best place for more accurate information on S1 is the Presonus forums.  As is Sonar here.

What exactly does S1 do better than Sonar when it comes to MIDI? It sure as hell isn't sysex.
