Created a bunch of .wrk files many years ago. Just got back into it. Good news is the .wrk files opened with Home Studio.
 
Problem: I cannot hear the audio and don't have a clue how to configure my computer to hear what I composed. It's a complete orchestral arrangement. Very frustrating.

Start with Hardware setup
 
SONAR will automatically add and assign instruments to MIDI files when no MIDI output device is selected in Preferences > MIDI > Devices. I would recommend not using the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. After opening the wrk file, save it as a MIDI file and then open the MIDI file to take advantage of the TTS-1 automatic mapping.
