Just out of curiosity, what is the MIDI track pan control for?

I might be misunderstanding but the midi pan control works similar to an audio pan control

Thanks, I guess what I'm missing is how a MIDI pan differs from an audio pan.

MIDI pan, CC10, is an instruction to the synth driven by that MIDI track. If the synth outputs a stereo signal, it often uses CC10 to control its own version of panning to its output. Audio pan on a synth or instrument track is done by Sonar to the audio coming out from the synth, just as it would do to a clip on an audio track. The effects of the two could be similar, depending on the exact implementation in the synth.

^^^ This is the correct way to look at it. From SONAR's perspective it's just another MIDI CC. It's entirely up to the synthesizer to interpret it and then do something with the information. Within the synth, it's usually exactly the same as an audio pan control. But there is no formal requirement that the synth respect CC10 or to treat it as a pan control.

Makes sense, thanks again.
