Voda La Void
Finally found a little use for this upper vocal register I discovered about a year ago and have been working on.  This is more of a rock song, not so much the heavy progressive stuff I put out here before.

Turn it up if you can...I mix stuff to be loud!  The link plays the song automagically.

Lots of different feels happening but they seem to work well together. High vocal stuff really suited the atmospheric guitars. I'm not really the "full on guitar" sought of person, so it kind of took me a bit by surprise when they came in, but I did really enjoy the song. Well done....

That's great..this is really well produced and mixed. Those changes from the clean, Chris Isaac-ish guitars to the heavy ones are very nicely mixed, as are the vocals. Unusual sound, but I like it.

Wookiee
Works well here, the mix comes across balanced and with space nicely done.

Thanks for sharing

Very cool. I get lots of different vibes from this. Like many bands from over the years all coming together for one big jam.

very cool song. actually I hope you don't mind when I say that I like this one better than the rest of your record, it really stands out - maybe it is just more radio-friendly! well prodcued and played, I am impressed.

rebel007 - much thanks, I appreciate your ear.

Jamesg1213 - thanks, I am getting the feeling the sounds are unusual, which I didn't expect.

Wookie - that's precisely what I was going for...a more spacey mix, lots of room for the parts.

Scottytunes - I have been getting that same...response, different vibes...took me by surprise actually.

speedtom - No, I don't mind that at all, and was exactly what I expected really - to stand out as a radio friendly commercial type thing.

I'll be honest, I'm disappointed at the overall response, or lack thereof.  I know everyone in here can relate.  I guess I just blew it on this one.

I've always prided myself on knowing what people want to hear - and when I write long, windy songs, with an emphasis on music over vocals, meandering structures over radio friendly structures, I know full well that I am challenging the listener.  So I've always accepted the lack of enthusiasm, and select audience I get as a result of that - has always been expected and has never bothered me at all.

But this time, I purposely set out to do something simple and radio friendly.  And I am completely dumbfounded at the response I'm getting - not so much here, but on other song boards.  I thought I had a great song here that was accessible to the modern ear, but man, I can tell that people are just not digging it.  And I'm clueless to what is happening.  Maybe I'm just completely out of touch.  I don't know.

I like to learn from my mistakes.  And I'm so lost here, that I don't know what to take from this, what to learn.  My wife says I'm too influenced by Mars Volta and that this song is too much of a Jekyll and Hyde.  I don't hear it, honestly.  But maybe she's right?  (pst..nobody tell her I said she might be right about something, she'll never let me forget it, ha ha!)

Don't beat yourself up about it too much, I think it sounds great. When I say 'unusual', I really mean 'unusual to me', so don't take that the wrong way.

As far as lack of response goes, you'll find you get more replies the longer you stick around and comment on other people's music, that's the way it usually works. I don't see any negatives in the comments you've had so far, so that's got to be a plus.

Hey James, I appreciate it.  I'm going to do what I do, and nothing is going to change that.  I love this song - I hope that doesn't sound vain, I just do.  I love the space, the lyrics, how all of the sudden the heavy guitars and thundering drums kick in and then the haunting, dreamy ending - I busted my ass on that vocal work, from the screaming rock stuff to the smoothed trippy stuff at the end.  The melodies work for me, real well.

It's just that nobody likes it - ha ha!  Let's be honest here.  I've had 35 views at Ultimate-Guitar, not a single reply - that's a hard death right there.  I've had a lot of views here too, but you guys have been generous.

I'm a big boy, I can take it.  I'm more confused that anything else, because I thought it would be received way better.

I will continue to give my *honest* critiques on this board and give us amateurs the attention we all deserve.  And thank you for yours.  Happy recording!

I love this sound, and you've planted a seed in people's minds with this.  Just nurture this and fruition will come.  We're all atoms in a huge sea, and not as many people as you might think listen to these song forums across the internet.  The more you listen, the more you'll be heard.
