Love the very “dry” production sound on this…don’t know how else to describe it but listening to this gave me the same feeling when I first heard the original REM recordings…which were quite different from a lot of what was about at that time….
I think it was Lynne who says:
“Their mixes were often muddy, and few could understand the lyrics. But, that mostly was by design, and that sound became their trademark” For me that was the early REM signature and really what gave them their unique early sound ( well that and Peter Buck’s Rickenbacker) When you think about it is fascinating to think where they went from “Murmur” and “Rumour” to stuff like ‘Shiny Happy People”…while a totally different and upbeat sound somehow still retains an element of the “dry” sound….
Also great to hear the sound of a real live band at work and loving what they do…
