Can't even collect dust. So true.
Retrospect, I should have learned a wise lesson from a 12 year old kid who was unsuccessfully trying to get thru to me with a higher level of reason.
New budding musician with the talent and the flame, several years ago started the road to digital recording, and mind blown that he and his band could record at home and stop paying studio time outside.
Had a laptop and wanted to use it to start. Advised his Mom that they would need a soundcard to replace the internal chip, so she got them a starter Presonus Audio Box. Came bundled with the Studio One Artist version. Artist has some neat native plugs to cover the basics but is a teaser that blocks any 3rd party plugins.
Soon, the mailbox was flooded with excellent mp3's.
I told him he should upgrade the program so he could use the vast universe of free and commercial plugins. Sent him some freeware vst's.
Replied thanks, but I already got a reverb. Compressor sounds nice, but Artist already got one. Appreciate the echo unit but I have one of them too. Don't need a second equalizer.
Then the nail... Honest request that he would at least be interested to hear what I was talking about. Do a few mp3's of some original songs using the superior technology so he could compare my stuff with what he was doing in Artist.
Have to admit, what I sent him was not as good as what they were sending my way. Has given me many times to think, usually before I buy anything new. It feels like many others are starting to put the brakes on impulsive spending too. Might have to change the old biblical passage about not storing stuff where moth and dust corrupt.
Hope all are well,
John
