Very cool. I'd get lost trying to put drum fills into this, but you did it very smoothly and kept the groove. Interesting track, liked it.

thanks guys! Yea, I decided that after listening to this for a couple days, I need to turn this into a proper song. It was mainly just a jam here, but I've had some ideas since and I've started chopping up the arrangement to put into more of a traditional song form. Sticking to the Chick Corea/RTF feel, I'm trying to work up a latin feel for some of the other parts (while still remaining in 17/16). I've never played a samba in this meter before, so it'll be an adventure to see what I can come up with (and actually play!). The original drum track was basically worked up only after about 4 takes or so (after the "learning the feel" phase) with no punch-ins, so I know there are a couple warts here and there. I'll be sure to re-post what I come up with. Hopefully it won't suck! :)

Very cool Brian! I used to listen to a lot of Chick Corea and Jean-Luc Ponty, so I get the vibe here. Love your drums, by the way. It seemed like there were only a few spots where things sort of fell apart. If you can tighten those up, I think it would be great if you added a soaring guitar solo somewhere in there, then break out to a more "standard" beat to wrap up. Just my two cents...

Great minds think alike, Dan! Coincidentally, I ran into a guitar player friend of mine last night, a guy that I used to play with in my off/on again fusion band a few years ago. We talked about jamming again and I think he would be perfect to shred over the top. I'm really pumped about converting this thing into an actual song now, so I'm hoping I come up with something decent.

This was a recording of us a few years back - this is a pretty loose jam, but I love this stuff

Agree with the 17/8-beat. It seems to be divided into 2/4+5/8 (2/8+3/8)+4/4. Cool jam with some 70s riff. I think this sort of music is fun but really hard recording. Nice work! I hear some Ponty and Brand X (Phil Collins experimental group). Thanks for posting this!

Hi Brian , this is fun to jam over.  Not to sure about this 17/16 thing, but then again I don't count anyway ; )
