  • Question: SONAR and Softube Console 1

I know this is a question to Softube - but it must also work with SONAR:

Is it possible to use the Console 1 with VST-Plugins like iZotope RX6, Voxengo or Waves in SONAR?
So that I can map a knob for the Waves L2, and three other knobs for the Waves Q10?
Or does the Console 1 only work with UAD and Softube?
And if it works with other common VST-Plugins - can the settings fixed in SONAR, so that the once mapped VST-Plugins are firmly and constant present in all SONAR projects?

The Console 1 is a nice hardware and I'm considering if it does for restoring tapes and vinyl - also for working with my songs.

Hi. If you stop the Console 1 software, it can be used as a regular controller.
Azslow has a preset on his site.
http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,324.0.html I've been too chicken to try it myself
All the best.

Thank you.
So I can either use it via Azslow as a seperate controller OR the Console 1 software. But not both at the same time. This is not what I really want. I have sent Softube the same question. Probably I need an other or an additionally controller for the vst-plugins.

I also wish the Console 1 supported more plugins than it does

I don't think Console 1 works with time based effects... I asked Softube if they might support 3rd party plug ins down the road and they responded that they didn't think the company had any plans at this point besides UAD... and only for compression, EQ, gate...  Based on what I've read on these forums, people are using Behringer and Presonus products for fader control.
That being said, with my limited experience (probably only used it three or four times since purchased as I have a heck of time finishing anything and getting to the mixing stage-- ),
I really like it!

I spent about 30 minutes playing with Console 1 at the AES convention Friday. It is extremely well thought out, and works brilliantly.

The very thing that makes it so attractive also makes it a non-starter for me - integration with Sonar and Studio One is well done, but only for a small collection of plugins - and while both the UAD and Softube plugins are really good, and I own some of them, I do not want to give up all the rest.

They will continue to add both plugins and platforms, but they want to stick with the model where the control surface represents a channel strip. Which is cool.

Really, if you want to use their plugins in Sonar or Studio One it is fantastic. And those supported plugins are really good.

Aside - ironically, my next stop was CADAC - their user interface takes a minute or two to grasp, and after that it is maybe my new favorite digital console interface. Absolutely brilliant! A wee bit outside my price range, but brilliant!

That is a problem for me.
Because I earn my money with restoring old tapes and vinyl I need to control special plugins from Waves, Voxengo, iZotope RX and so on and want to automate them. I only need to control 1 or 3 values of each plugin. The few controls on the market with about 10 knobs and a few buttons are either childrens toys or look ugly. Some are inaccurate and the knob jumps from 1,0 dB direct to 2,0 dB. Or they are so impractical that I'm faster by doing it with mouse and keyboard.

This one can do everything in Sonar, control any plug-in (8+8 continuous parameters per plug-in) and cost not much:

The software is "made in Germany"
Encoders have 2 levels of sensitivity, for coarse and fine adjustments (and you can tune both for your like).
It will be possible to test the functionality without the device soon (using device emulation on screen).

What I can not say is how good are physical controls, I have never touched them... Yes, looks like a toy, and yes, the software is "free". But you loose almost nothing if you try it, any may be it can work fine for you.

Another approach is to make "Console 1" like layout for your set of plug-ins, I mean to control several plug-ins in one strip in parallel. For that case, it is better to take BCR2000 (24 encoders) or X-Touch Compact (16 encoders + 8 faders).
