Lynn
This is the last song for a compilation CD that I've been working on for the last few years.  Therefor, I want it to end with a bang and leave a good impression which makes this mix very important to me.  I posted it about two years ago, got a lot of good advice from this forum, and now want to demo the changes I've made from your suggestions.  I want to thank all who helped me before and those who can help me now.  I must say, since participating in this forum, I've changed my MO quite a bit.  All for the better, I hope.

Here is the latest version (mix 5) with more bass drum (per Wookie): http://www.soundclick.com...ngid=12649391&q=hi

Hi Lynn

Maybe you caught my post to Bat. I have a new set of ear buds. They are supposed to be pretty accurate but I haven't yet had the chance to see how they stack up. With that in mind here is my take on it.

The composition and delivery here are 1st rate.. I have always liked how your vocals turn out. The guitar playing is really good. The bass is tight and well defined.

I'll be interested to hear others comments on this. On my setup I'm hearing some harshness in the mids. Nothing really overt. Maybe take some of the bite off with a master EQ. Nothing in the tracks looks bad at all. Any way to add warmth without over emphasizing bass would be helpful but not absolutely necessary. Maybe a tube or tape plug. Might get some analog feeling with the Tape simm. Just a sugg and depending on what others hear it might be my phones.

Lynn, reminds me a little of the Black Keys in places. Great job. Enjoyed it very much. Great guitar tone. Thought the bass could be a little bassier to give the song more bottom.

Well, it all sounds good on this end and the mix seems to present all of the instrumentation and vocals loud and clear. The guitar sound is nice and the bass sounds nice as well, but could come up maybe 0.5db in the mix, just so you can hear it a little better. Other than that, I think you have another winner for the CD. Nice work.

Peace and Blessings, John

Lynn,

I really like the sound of this: crunchy, dissonant, loose, and rough, with a harmonized (and flanged?) lead vocal. I like the arrangement and it has swing or sway to it. The mix sounds well balanced. And its a cool tune.
My only quibble is that the bassline sounds kind of busy at times.

Cool project

Cheers,

Bert

What I liked about this song (apart from the song itself) was the mix, well balanced, everything clear and clean. I agree with Starise, some harshness in the guitars. Being a bass player I would have liked to hear it more often, but this may be just personal preference.

Good work as always but, for me, the mix lacks mid weight, other than that it's good.

Thanks for sharing.

Didn't have the opportunity to hear what you started with, but this seems to be working pretty well. Only comments are purely a matter of personal preference.

1. Did not mind the bass line (as I'm a bass player). Yes, it was a little busy, but I thought it worked well and the overall groove was good.

2. The ld vox sound a bit too processed for me. I'm sure that was your intention, because they're very consistent, but I would have liked to hear a more natural sounding lead. I do this on my own material as I'm never happy with the sound of mine, but it might be something to try. Perhaps even try a blend?

Good stuff, though.

I've been a little under the weather for the last few days, so I stayed on the sideline, but I want to take a few minutes to thank all of you that have listened and responded to this post.  I see a growing consensus about needing a bit more bass and/or mids in the mix.  I can do that!  I'll have a remix posted soon.

Starise - I'll see what I can do.  Thanks for listening.

Chas - I appreciate your comments and will act on them.

John - Thank you for you time and interest.  Your suggestion is a good one.

Bert Guy - It's good to hear from you.  In regard to the vocal processing, actually, nothing was processed.  The lead and main harmony are dry, the backup vox are going through a light reverb, and only in the bridge do I use the old telephone EQ on all the vox.  You may be hearing an artifact from the mp3 conversion.  And, my bass parts do tend to get a little busy from time to time.

Tim - thanks a million!

Rebel007 - I appreciate your comments and time.  Up with the bottom!

Wookie - I hear you loud and clear.  As stated above, I'll be working on that.

Jackson white - welcome to the forum, and thanks for your time and response.  As I said, all the vox is dry except the backups.  However, I'll listen to that carefully on the next mix.

Again, thanks to all of you, and I'll be back here tomorrow.
