I am also curious about this topic. After reading the article, I believe EUCON 3.7 is clearly aimed at the Pro Tools world. I do not own any Avid hardware, however any major advancement they make is surely going to be copied by others. And it is always fun to watch the competition set their money on fire.
 
Many on this forum have been clamoring for "tightly integrated" hardware. I have not personally used or seen more tightly integrated hardware for controlling SONAR than a trackball and keybindings. So hopefully this announcement from Avid of improved software for the hardware that controls their software will lead to better hardware solutions for those on this forum seeking to improve their "workflow" (I can't find the emoji for burning money ).
 
I (for one) hope Cakewalk does not get distracted by any of this. Touch is the future. Motorized faders on an analog mixer were cool in the nineties. Today on a DAW controller they are redundant (space invading electron hogs).
 
Maybe I am just grumpy from not having a tip to play with tonight.

I'm still working with the version v3.6 and the AVID Artist Mix. This works very well and stable with SONAR.
The next weeks I will make an update. As I see the new version 3.7 is more for controling plugins. So I don't have any advantage, because the Artist Mix is not suitable for controling plugins.

The reason why I asked is I also use Artist Mix with SONAR, and have been able to control some plug-ins (Waves seems to be most compatible) but very unpredictably in SONAR. Because SONAR was one of the first DAWs to implement EUCON, I doubt the code has been revised recently or even needs to be, so that's why I wondered if anything breaks.

I actually did a fair amount of consulting to Avid prior to joining Gibson. They weren't easy to work with on some levels because the goal posts changed a lot, but they were certainly nice people and the checks didn't bounce.

For me, where hardware control really makes a difference is with soft synths and effects more than mixing per se.
 

Marketing-speak. That made my day. I laughed coffee right out my nose. Seriously, I nearly drowned sitting in an office chair.
 
And yes, I could find space for a box of knobs that can reliably switch between plug-ins to control synths and fx. Many of the parameters in those types of plugs are much easier to control with dedicated knobs.
 
Devices I have used in the past took more time to set up than I spent using them. And I would often make adjustments with the trackball anyway, forgetting about the knob I had spent time programming.
 
In the near future I will be looking to get a new keyboard controller. So maybe by the time I gather the funds to burn on one a device will come out that I will use for more than entering notes and wiggling the mod wheel.
 
Well designed tools definitely help inspire creativity. If EUCON can help make integrating Avid devices into the SONAR environment seamless, surely other companies won't be too far behind. That would be a benefit for all of us.
