I played in a band called "Sprawl."  Aside from getting called "Spawn, Spoil," and a hundred other mixups, this was in the early 00's, before bands had heavy internet presence.
Once we started getting attention, it was impossible to Google us. Everything that came up was about urban growth.

I hope most bands today think about that...

Hi,

There used to be one in France named ... "ftm" ... and saying it here, or even translating is definitely a problem with the rules! It's actually nasty!

Although we are used to it since it is pop culture, Steely Dan is an odd bad name especially considering the origins.

Just think how funny it would be if Thin Lizzy opened for Steely Dan?

The Beatles.

Bad spelling aside why call a group of humans a disgusting insect name?

In the UK, after skiffle and before "pop and rock", guitar bands were known as "Beat" groups, hence the Lennonesque wordplay. Before that of course, on their Scottish tour with Johhny Gentle in 1960 they were known as The Silver Beetles. Of course the whole Beetle / Beatle theme, originally put forward by Stu Sutcliffe, was their collective hat tip to Buddy Holly and The Crickets...

Thin Lizzy were originally called 'Tin Lizzie', and named after character in a comic book. They changed to 'Thin' because Dubliners pronounce it 'Tin'.  HTH.

Of course, I know what Craig meant.

Spock's Beard always struck me as an odd choice of name.

De Puta Madre is a group out of Belgium. Literally it means " from a **** mother", but is actually a slang phrase that is similar to the once popular "****in!" positive affirmation
