Dan,
What I like most about your version of this classic ballad is your vocal. This lyric is so well crafted that every word counts, and builds on the preceding words. Therefore, every line -every word- lends itself to interpretation. Your phrasing is flat out superb. And I like the way you crescendo on parts of the chorus, and then, back out to the contemplative feel you have through much of the song. The piano playing has a similar feel to the vocal.
My only crits are that the drum part is metronomic, and the organ part is static, with some notes that hang out too long. If I had unlimited resources, I would consider recording the drum part over with a live drummer who was good with brushes, and recording a live acoustic bass part.

You really made this song your own with your voice, which is hard to do when there is a pre-existing iconic version.

Cheers,

Bert

You have a really nice voice - good job on the vocal.

I have to echo what others have said about the drums - they sound robotic, like you just found a few default patterns and with that. Bonnie Raitt's version has such great feel, and the drums sound great, but if you listen there's an almost imperceptible pushing and pulling that the drums do - the human element that makes the feel. That has to be really worked on with synth drums and isn't easy, and unfortunately you've picked a song that really needs that to make the feel.

The keyboards are a bit stiff and static although the organ sound is cool.

Your voice is the focus, though, and that carries the song.

I only claim to be a singer.  All else is suff I'd gladly hand off to others, but there are no others.  ;o)

I'll add my voice to the kudos on your vocals.  You really interpret and sell the lyrics in very refreshing and honest manner.  Great job Dan.

Dan, I heard a number of your songs, and I've always liked your voice and interpretations.  I think this is one of your best.  It takes more than a good voice, but the way you phrase your lyrics add to the soulfulness of the song.  Overall, this is terrific.
