On my system with Windows 10 Home, I noticed this in the past...
I had been trying to stop automatic Windows 10 updates in the past by telling windows my wifi was a metered connection. It did stop all Auto-updates but I noticed in the system useage meter in Sonar that every 10 minutes or so, each cpu core would be driven to max one at a time and my laptop fans would start working overtime, then it would die down again. Every time this would happen, task manager would show Windows trying to attempt an update. The maxed CPU cores could temporarily cause an audio issue in some cases. I finally gave up and just let Windows update and do whatever it wanted... instantly everything ran like it should again and there have been no more CPU spikes. Has anyone else encountered this behaviour? Thanks, Mark.

   I leave mine on auto-update, & have had very few problems.
Also, I have the same problem with AVG Free always trying (and failing) to update while I'm using Sonar.

There is defiantly see odd things with Win10. I keep win10 updates off otherwise even I set the updates to manual windows will override and download them.
I always end up turning off the wifi and rebooting when getting ready to run SPlat.
Today when Windows was rebooting the fan came on working overtime for a couple minutes.
Normally I never even hear the fan. Who knows what happened? Breath Holding...

You can disable the Windows Update service for good in control panel admin tools.

Thanks for the replies! Bitman, I always thought you were not able to disable windows 10 updates on the Home edition??? How do you do it through the administrative tools? I know I couldn't manually stop the service in the task manager. It doesn't really impact me anymore as I seem to be running pretty stable these days. Could have a lot to do with the RME drivers. I've been remote recording with 12 mics at once through my Babyface Pro (with some external preamps), even with wifi enabled, with no problems at all. The only time Sonar has some issues is when I am mixing a session that combines vst3 plugins with vst2 in the wrong combination.... restarting Sonar usually lets me keep on working.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - Scroll down to 'Windows Update' right click and select 'Disable.
 
There are other ways, but a lot of them aren't permanent, they just buy you time, and eventually Windows will say "enough of that, you are updating today" and update you will whether you like it or not. There are also other permanent ways to achieve it, but this is the easiest, and Windows update won't bother you again until if and when you enable it.

I have the updates enabled and have NOT had any problems, to date.  I got the new Fall Creators Update, V1709 yesterday and no issues (so far).  No problems in Sonar and none of my add-ons that require registration/activation needed reactivated.
