I purchased two Behringer X-TOUCH Extenders to go with my X-touch and only one extender will work at a time in Sonar Platinum. Tried this in both SONAR and presonus studio one. It seems they are conflicting as USB MIDI Devices in my windows 10 workstation. I get an error message every time I try to select the second X-Touch Extender in MIDI devices under preferences.

Under Device Manager in Windows they both do appear as independent devices with different names/identifiers. I tried posting in the Behringer support forum and they replied with this:

"I'd recommend contacting Cakewalk and PreSonus.

Here's a note I found on page 10 of the Quick Start Guide:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Not all DAWs support more than one hardware controller of the same type.

Please post back and let us know what you find out.

Good Luck,
Ken"

Is there a fix for this or am I doing something wrong? I don't have current technical support with Sonar since my license expired at the end of 2016, so I am using the version that is current as of 12/2016. Hopefully I don't have to return one of these extenders.

Is there any way you can run one extender in to the other using midi ?
I run my Mackie Through midi using the Mackie control.
It might be something to look in to.
At any rate, I hope the bump helps and someone sees it with better insight than I.

I'm considering this myself... did you do it this way?  https://youtu.be/WX0uo1JXers

Behringer says: Multiple X-TOUCH and EXTENDER units can be combined to emulate a large-scale control surface.

That maybe up to the usb-interface. Try to use 2 different usb-interfaces. So to say, 1 usb-controller for 1 extender.
Just to test it.
Maybe you have to give every unit a number (you have to ask Behringer)
Under SONAR: Are 2 controllers installed in the controller setup?

You can daisy chain them with USB cables. Should be able to connect 2, 3, 4, etc. together. If Sonar doesn't allow this then maybe a feature request is in order.

I don't have an additional USB interface card but I can look into that as those can be had cheaply. No matter what port I use or if I Daisy chain them Sonar will give me an error once I try to use the second one saying the port is in use. Reaper works fine with it but I really hope I don't have to switch as Sonar is my preferred DAW. The extenders don't have MIDI in/out unfortunately or else I'd do that for one of them for sure. Thanks everyone for your suggestions I hope I can get this going eventually.

OK Just to follow up on this in case anyone else has this issue... I found a solution. RTPmidi works with the ethernet port to set it up that way! Working great now.
