Anyone who's recently purchased the super Albion deal or is considering it needs to be aware of Spitfire's "Ostinatum" generator... a full description is located here:

THE OSTINATUM GENERATOR is truly amazing.   NO other orchestral system offers this in such an intuitive and useful package... and it is hugely powerful... I can loose myself endlessly in the amazing Ostinatums (orchestra riffs) I can create (and spitfire includes a zillion doing all sorts of REAL orchestral runs and riffs)... this is a HUGE benefit of this library... especially when used within a multi or template... multiple riffs can be going on...up to 8 can be triggered by keyswitch...for each instrument... time, volume, offset, note or chord... it is just brilliant in a way too dinky gui, but nonetheless, absolutely brilliant and priceless.

I cannot imagine playing what real orchestral folk play... but the OG can!  It is just unbelievable and well, that's all I'll say on it... Daniel James has discussed it but little seems out there.  It makes Albion such a real orchestral backdrop in compositions, as you are still in control of all the notes, meaners, keyboard dynamics... pouring thru the OG...

I have no idea if the Ostinatum generator will be in ONE... cept for a bigger GUI, I can't imagine improving it... but it is one of the finest features of the Albion series...

I was going to start a new thread for this, but since you seem to be quite familiar with the Ostinatum feature in Albion, I figured I'd check with you first. On page 18 of the Albion manual (http://spitfire-webassets.s3.amazonaws.com/pdfs/ALBION_v5_USER_MANUAL.pdf) it says that you have to move the Ostinatum Presets folder to "My Documents>Albion/Data" (on PC) in order for them to me findable and usable when using Albion. That folder doesn't exist on my PC and I can't for the life of me figure out where else I should stick it. Any advice? I'm on Windows 10.

Yes, I'm on windows 10. It is the documents folder under your user name. Should also be a shortcut in your Windows explorer on the left side.

Been doing taxes... ugh!  What they said, Cris...  I put mine in libraries>documents>my documents>albion>data but I'm on windows 7.
In there I have Redux Factory Presets folder and I made a My Ostinatums folder...

I don't really think I have it perfect as I have to do a couple double clicks to get the the presets... been meaning to take um all out of the folder but ain't done it yet.

hope ur having fun...

Here's silently thinking/hoping that Albion One will "include" Albion 1 (legacy) ...
Edith adds: ... and a crossgrade offer from other orchestral libraries would be nice too.

I actually ended up just leaving it in the location it's currently in. I have to navigate to it initially, but once I've chosen one preset, if I click on 'load' again it remembers the location. So, no worries! I still can't find the folder they mentioned in the manual though. Haha! And, yes, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I can't wait to use it on an actual project.

Ya know, Chris... when I first tried the OG I was so frustrated, knowing nothing about music notation... coming from the rock band world, a singer/songwriter/bass player... was really confused.  But it motivated me to find an notation value tree, keep it posted on the screen, and calculate the values to resolve things properly.... really fun to muck around... it is quite amazing and I like to think the SF folks are actually forcing me to understand a teeny bit of the language you composers use...

but i can get lost it it... all night long, muckin' with the OG and just vamping over beds... it's a joy and definitely achieves a realism other arpeggiators cannot...and multis with multiple OG's goin' really results in unintended intrigue... please let me know when you post something... I would love to give a listen...

Glad ur around here...

I come from the same background as you, actually. I've never had a day of music lessons or training. I started playing guitar in high school and pretty much just played in instrumental rock bands for years. I began listening to more and more video game music and started exploring composing my own video game style music (using Cakewalk Music Creator 2003).

When I first started out I didn't even have a MIDI controller, and had no idea what the heck a piano roll view was. Haha! So, even though I couldn't read music, I did all of my composing in the staff view. I figured out enough about music notation to translate what I was playing on my guitar or keyboard to the musical staff. I am still horrendous at reading music, and I can't sightread at all. But I have at least figured out the basics :)

I have, of course, since acquired a proper MIDI controller and work almost exclusively in the Piano Roll View now, but, I too learned the little bit I do know about musical notation from playing around with virtual instruments in my DAW.

While I don't make a living from writing music just yet (I'm trying!), I actually have published games out there with my music in them. In fact, one of the games I composed the soundtrack for had a booth in the Indie Games Area at Tokyo Game Show a couple of weekends ago!

Anyway, I am definitely looking forward to playing around more with the Ostinatum Generator. I've already got a ton of ideas about making huge short note multis in Kontakt using Hi/Lo Strings, WW, and Brass and building these awesome syncopated ostinatos spanning the full orchestra. Man, I'm getting excited just thinking about it :D I'll be sure to share once I have something done. (Though I should probably wait until Albion One is released before I go too crazy - I don't want to have to redo it all once the new one is out.)

Thanks for the warm message, by the way. This forum has always been a great place and you all are so helpful.

Just tried i out. Whew. +100. Wow! Who needs a life if you have this? Seriously, I just wrote a three triad masterpiece within 3 minutes of setting it up. Women are going to start noticing a new confidence in my stride ;-)  No serioulsy, this is an amazing bloody wondertool, I can only fault vastman for underselling it ;-)

I'm going to check something -- whether you can use Kontakt's "send midi to the outside world" feature to have the generated ostinato drive another vi ... that would raise this already awesome awesomeness to the power of 10 or so ...

A question for users ... the only thing I can fault this for so far is that you can't scroll ostinatum presets with a single click, i.e. some sort of clickable arrow which advances to the next ostinatum preset (not talking about instrument presets); rather seems you have to click Load, then troll through the list. This does make it a bit of a buzzkill to quickly audition the same chord progression or whatever through diferent patterns. Unless there's  quicker way I'm missing?

Anyway, thank you vastman for flagging this, and for the helpful pm which got me up and running.
