I have the old one, but have not used it for a while.  In fact, I kind of forgot that I have it.  Thanks for reminding me Shark.  I agree with your assessment of the old AC30 amPlug.  
 
I also have the Amplitube iPhone/ iPad sims.  Though I like them and they sound good; its just a hassle to hook everything up to get it all working together.  I think the Vox is much more user friendly for this lazy musician.  
 
What I have been using the most lately, is my Peavey 20w Head running in 1w mode.  I can play it super quite and still have tube tone going.  Nothing simpler than plugging in and flipping the toggle to 'on'.  It has a head phone out if I need to be completely silent.
