• SONAR
  • SPLAT lagging before playback and recording... (p.2)

This even happens in a brand new project where I'm just trying to start recording the very first track...with no plugins loaded or anything.  I hit record and then have to wait 2 or 3 seconds before the cursor starts moving.  I'll try the solutions above but I'm not holding my breath.

Thing is though...this doesn't (so far) happen on the music suite DAW...just the VO suite.  So it might be computer specific.  Will definitely check the "game mode" thingy.

I had a problem like this a few months back with a Focusrite Scarlet 18i20. Turned out their driver was the culprit, when I switched over to a beta version it went away. This was supposedly due to the fact that the Focusrite was plugged into a USB 3.0 port which shouldn't be an issue, but my machine had flaky USB 3.0 ports.

Try a different USB port if you can.

Seth: thanks for weighing in. It may not be a widespread issue (yet) but, I have been seeing several folks bringing this up recently. Hey! At least I'm not alone! Ha ha! It might be something you would want to look into?

sharke: I see those kind of issues here, too. It's not a total work stopper but, it's really frustrating and slows down the workflow a lot!

If those users who are experiencing the issue can rollback and find a build where the same project(s) are not exhibiting the behavior - that will give us something to go on.  Otherwise we're just stumbling around in the dark.

I'm curious if our Ol' Pal has the same Windows versions on both machines. That could be another piece of the puzzle.

Lately the SPLAT on the voiceover DAW in our B room which is on a moderately powered (i5) but new computer has been having a 2 or 3 second lag before playback or recording when the spacebar is pushed.  Just started a couple weeks ago.  Have gone through and checked all the settings and all seems normal.

Any possible solutions will be much appreciated.

new (i5) CPU? Some are not as good as others or the BISO is not setup to take full advantage of the CPU.
just my 2 cents.

Peace! :)

Have you deleted your picture cache lately?
Another " placebo " I like to use is deleting aud.ini.
Bit of a pain setting the ins and outs again, I keep a screen shot for that.
It seems to help.

OK update,   Deleted the Picture cache but the same thing is happening.

This is a mix that has 62 tracks in it.  The project has EQ and Comp on almost every track.  I had SSL Comp, Q10 and Kramer Master Tape to mix through on the Mix 2 Bus.  Every time I started the project it will take 5 seconds for the project to start.

I opened a few previous projects with lesser tracks but more plugins, and I have no problems with the start time at all.

Edit > Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching - (Playback read and write caching both = 1024 KB) , is this an adequate number?
  • Enable read caching is unchecked
  • Enable write caching is unchecked
I've had projects with over 75 tracks with EQ and Compression on each track work well before.  I'm puzzled.

Update:   I changed the playback read and write caching to 128 KB and this resolved the problem.

Thanks for the great information everyone.  Thank you for the answer Seth !!!

No problem. If you can run 128 that's great, 256 shouldn't really cause a lag either.
