scotty
thanks jammer...
you know this one was originally written and recorded on the VS-1880
i've kept the drum tracks, and started over on everything else with the intent of re-release.
you know, ever since good ole Walrus's record label went tits up, i've wanted to redo the "Trouble" album, update it, and so i can start over....

olemon
cool, thanks for checking it out even tho it's not your usual thing.

it DOES sound similar, but man was it easier/faster to get there just trusting the monitor situation more.
i cannot help if my room has issues even after moderate sound treatment, but i CAN get the monitors to act like they are in a flat environment with the software.
even if it's not correct, it's WAY closer than what i was getting without it.

thanks for the kind words....
xtc, you know, that guy played an Ibanez Artist back when i had my first one, i always thought that was cool.....

My Sennheisers love the balance in this song...Granted they aren't the high end ones (HD210s) but it sounds real nice on my cans.  VERY well produced.  Would be interested in your setup to get such a clean balanced mix.

Did you ever get your CDs back from Paul? I had to fight tooth and nail to get mine back.

What a great song and production. Favourite bits - that acoustic intro is sublime, through headphones I got the illusion that the guitars were curved above and around the vocals - beautifully mixed. The key change into the solo - masterful. This is so full of great ideas and touches you could get 3 or 4 songs out of it

thanks for the info on the sennheiser playback...

that's a good sign, if they sound good there....
appreciate it.

my setup is so basic and simple....
standard win xp PC, with sonar 6PE on it...
i've got a Maudio Audiophile 192 card, that i go straight into with line out signals and analog inputs, all conversion done at the sound card.

i have a pair of inexpensive KRK rokit monitors, and a Hafler power amp driving them.
i have two external tube mic preamps, one a very expensive A Designs Audio MP-1, and the other a $200 ART DPS unit with stereo 'starved plate' tube preamps, and this unit actually sounds very good, and i use it more than the A Designs unit.
i have decent mics (Shure KSM44, ADK Hamburg, Audio Technica 4033, Shure SM57) and use Mogami and Canare cables.
i use a Sansamp Bass DI for direct bass recording, and sometimes split that thru my guitar rig.
mesa boogie tube head, celestion speakers in (3) 1x12 cabs.
i think the KEY to "clean balanced" mixes, starts with really good captures.

i take as much time as is required, to get my gain structures correct....
mic placements...
getting the SOURCE correct before i ever even think about hitting the record button.
i keep my signal paths as clean as possible.
then when i'm mixing, i have pristine tracks to work with.
i go thru every track, and eliminate deadspace on the wav file, i trim the audio tracks as required, and never have any extraneous noise on any single track.
most of the time, you could take any of my mixes, and simply bring the faders up with no EQ, and panned centered, and they will sound fine.
i only tweak because i'm OCD.
LOL

The speaker(s) that's built-in the iPhone....a opposed to listening to them with ear buds on a phone.  There's probably no bass below 500 hz, so if your mix gives the illusion of there being a decent amount bass that's pretty darn amazing.

hehe, i hear you man..... about the discs...

well, i was lucky, in that i sold them all....
but i didn't make that many to begin with.
he did send me a few small checks along the way, but i never broke even on the deal.
either way, it was a fun adventure.

and now, i'll re-mix the entire album with new parts, new approach, and re-release it on digital download.
all the songs are copyrighted, and i still have the Licensing agreement with Henry Fox agency for the "Bad Moon Rising" cover, so i'm good.
