I won't say it's better, it's notably louder and I added some more verb.  I definitely learned something in the process.  This was the first time I used automation in the mix for example, and it was the first time I tried to mix with mastering in mind.  Thanks for the feedback.

Here's the mastered song:

I remember this one and yes, it sounds much better. Very nicely done and a nice mix. The vox is right where it should be and sounds nice and clear. Bravo!!

Peace and Blessings, John

cool tune....

fish jumping in the boat.... reminded me of this>>  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Bf0WhvsNk

I don't think or recall having heard this one before. Mix sounds good on this one.  Perhaps a touch more reverb on the vox would be the only thing I would change..... maybe on the master too. Just a touch.

Should I start over?

the master sounds okay to me...I only have a few things I wanted to say if I may:

the most time when I listen to a track,  I imagine I am in the rehearsal room with the band, and when I would say to them about the music. in this case I wud say:

"hey pianoplayer, please back off a bit, you don't need to play all of the time. why don't you play less on the verse, come back in the chorus?"

regarding the master, I have to check closer later once my boys finally sleeping...which toosl and plug-ins did you use?

Thank you speedtom.  Yes.  I fought that piano player the whole time...lesson learned.
I also did not use separate tracks for the AD, and that was a mistake as well, because I couldn't figure out how to easily contain that symbol ring and those snare hits.  I think I understand the basics of compression now though.

Here's the mastering chain.

On the imported stereo wav track:

Quad EQ HP Filter -> PC76 Comp -> A-Type Console Emulator -> BT Stereo Imager -> LP-64 EQ -> BT Comp -> Sonitus Reverb

On the Master Bus -> T-RackS Clipper -> T-RackS Limiter

Dear Scott,

I listened again. The master sounds fine to me, I maybe would make the kick drum a bit louder, but I believe your sound is more suitable for the country genre (I as a rock/punkrock fan like the lick loud!) I had another production "trick" that you might want to use if you feel to re-mix the song: at the end, at the question/response-part (you got the beer? - YEP!) you could use different eqs and panning for the question-response.

beside that I must say that you are making huge steps when I keep your first song in mind. keep the good work up!
