Voda La Void
Hey Cakewalkers, I have been trying to get this one on SoundClick for some time now.  It's long, but it doesn't sit still, changes and evolves - and I'm getting some really positive feedback on this one.  The voicemail/music sequence at the end really seals it - it's my kids, and it works really well, and is funny too. Heavily Tool influenced, this one is, as is a lot of my music on this project - though I'm not comparing myself to that talent, I know better.   Any feedback would be appreciated.  As soon as I get home from work, I'll return the favor tonight, I promise.  Thanks for listening.

I don't think you are able to delete a whole thread, just edit your posts.

Thank you.  When I have time, I'll try to figure this out.  I listened to several songs on here this morning and all are using simple links so I'm not sure why mine would not post - just keeps disappearing.  I realize they are combating spam, but I don't understand the method here at all.  I tried to the link to the SoundClick page, and then the Facebook page, neither would work.

Oh well...for a radio tech, I sure am IP challenged...

You need 25 posts before you can post a link. Should work now, you've got 26.

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum.  If you don't mind comparisons, your voice reminded me of that Filter song "Hey, man, nice shot, nice shot man".  It was one of my favorite songs of the 90's.  Your recording is quite heavy, which shows good engineering skills for this type of music.  As you say, there are a number of different movements in the song which keeps it moving.  However, I though you missed an opportunity to change the mood when you went to the acoustic section.  The overall volume remained loud, and if you had brought the acoustics down a few db's, it would have made for a dramatic change of pace.  Otherwise, the wall of sound that you created is somewhat unremitting until the very end of the song where you do change it up a bit.  The only other thing I noticed was that the song had little dynamics, and less compression would allow it to breathe a bit more without sacrificing the "heaviness".  Not all hard rock or metal songs need to be flat-lined.  All in all, this is a good recording that could easily be a gem with a few tweaks.

Thank you Lynn.  No, I don't mind the comparison at all.  Actually, I've recently discovered an upper register that I haven't shared yet.  I need more practice before I lay tracks with it.  Singing along with Mars Volta songs on my way to work is really working out, ha ha!

Man, I'm not sure how to engineer that acoustic section you're talking about.  There is so much going on there - a very busy bass line, 4 tracks of that harmonized muffled electric guitar plucky thingy, the background solo, the acoustic picking and then the telephone-vocal...I just have no idea how to get all that crammed together without it sounding like you said.  Maybe it's too much...I think I'm too damn proud of those notes to sacrifice them by dropping them in the mix.

But...here's the real bummer...it's set it stone.  My studio was robbed and I didn't back my stuff up soon enough so the only version of that song I have as a project file is so old I would have to re-record most of the material, and I just don't have it in me to do it.  Thanks so much though, I do agree with ya on it.
