Yeh, I'm guessing not many folks in Niger have $1700 mortgage payments. Maybe I should consider moving there, while the real estate market's still strong here. I could sell my home and live out the rest of my life there on the proceeds. Further guaranteed by a considerably shorter life expectancy.

I guess you can argue about relative prices until the cows come home, to me the proof is in the pudding. The vast majority of humans live in horrible poverty when compared to us, and it's been that way all throughout history. You have kids who forage in garbage dumps for food in some parts of the world. No internet access, no phones, certainly no home recording studio well stocked with plugins and virtual instruments. Some people don't even have a refrigerator to keep food fresh. I understand that people naturally compare their quality of life with people around them, but it's certainly helpful to count your lucky stars for being born in the West sometimes.
