I had some time without the family today while the wife was attending a baby shower with my daughter and the teenager was wandering around with friends.  So I was bored and decided to look for some freebie amp sim VST's to get some new guitar tones.  A YouTube video filled with some really metal sounding sims led me to look up and find one to download.

I stumbled across this page: http://pvdhp7.wordpress.com/
That thing is very metal and not too versatile, but it sounds OK for it's purpose, particularly with the gain way down.  I started playing around with the tone and ended up riffing some stuff out, which led to tracks, which led to layers, which led to a song.

No loops, little editing, the fretless P-bass, typical Wogg drums and sound completed in about 4 hours.

Here's a bit more about the Sonar setup:
Sonar X2 Studio
Waves Renn v9 plugs for compression and EQ
All live tracked into old school M-Audio Delta 1010 input
Modest AMD Phenom II X3 setup, required under 20% CPU to do the whole thing

One Hot Biscuit for sure. Nice instrumentation and a killer mix. Nicely done. Merry Christmas.

Peace and Blessings, John

Nice jam Paul. Love the drum sound on this. Bass is quite dominant in the mix, the wide panned guitars could come up a fair bit I would say. Timing is a little 'sticky' here and there, but pretty darn good for 4 hours!

Excellent observations James!  There's a simple explanation: I'm primarily a bass player.  Anyone who doesn't mix bass strong is doing it wrong   That also contributes to the little timing slips here and there, I'd have to give up and pull in some better drum and guitar players to lock it down more solid, but I really have a ton of fun trying to keep up with it all myself.

Nice jam!  The parts play against each other very well.  Isn't inspiration a kick?

I think there's someone "up there" been waitin' to send that one down. I just had to jam along. Sometimes the quick and dirty ones are THE BEST. I agree with James, the wide panned guitars need more.
