No it did not work and the XLN Online installer would not let me put it anywhere else (I did several times put it where the online installer had recommended when I opened AD2 in Sonar Platinum) and I tried other spots but every time I went to exit the installer it said AD2 was in need of repair and would not finish but recycled me to the Advance tab "change path" routine... So, I am uninstalling and re installing Sonar Platinum (3rd time now) ...This is getting old quick... I've been at this several days and nights now.... I was so excited about this system... I have a brand new desktop verging on a workstation computer with a 24"x 24" monitor my Focusrite audio interface and I'm sitting here typing... I still do not understand why I have to change anything when there are two automated downloaders involved...Has any one else had to change paths or anything else to make this system work? Why aren't XLN and Sonar on the same page? Is this par for the course? Any ideas at this point would be appreciated and sorry if this post feels negative this is just frustrating....

It does install however it's all to do with the process.

Firstly, you already have a license for it. You download the installer from XLN and run it.
Enter your registration code.
Once registered proceed the kit selections and choose 3 from the list.
Providing you have chosen what you need.  It should now give you an option to download.

The path of your VST will be downloaded to your Command Center default in the advanced settings.
If it's ProgramData\Cakewalk\VST them you need to go into the Folder Options > View Hidden Files & System Files.  One more thing, make sure Sonar has the VST Preferences set to the correct directory in one of the optional paths.

You have more luck by going onto your Sonar personal products page and selecting the installer from there, like I did.

Let me know, how you get on.

OK!  Trying this again---I re installed everything (took a break for a while) and I am back to the XLN Audio installer telling me inside an orange bordered "Cannot Install" pop-up window: "The 64-bit and 32-bit VST paths are the same. Click on the Advanced button to change this, then try again."  I hit the "OK" button then go to the Advanced Options and I have three tabs to play with: 1. "Addictive Drums 2": Current Installation path (C:\ProgramData\XLNAudio\Addictive Drums 2\Sound Data\), 2."VST 64": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\) and 3. "VST 32": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\)  I need help with this: why is this error happening? There is absolutely nothing else on the computer except my Scarlett 18i8 and MBAM free version (passive). Am I the only one this error is happening to? Please with any advice given be VERY specific, please omit nothing! I am not extremely tech savvy--not totally stupid either, but assume I don't know, I will not take offense: at the end of the day I just want to get this running--I still cannot believe on a brand new computer and a brand new install--letting Cakewalk direct and XLNaudio direct the installs that I am getting error messages...OK, enough of that I am here with the "Advance Options" window open waiting for a solution---Thank-you in advance!

It's funny my copy is installed in ProgramData. I'll have a look tomorrow and find out what's going on.

I'm not sure where things are stored on my setup to be sure because as you said it's mostly preset and automated by the XLN installer. The command center is nothing more than a software download utility for your licenses/software. I will be backing up the downloads made by Command Center and clearing some space on my hard-drive.

I'll be organising all my VST's into one folder location to save any further confusion.

The VST64 and VST32 entries are why things are going wrong.

64 bit Windows has two program files directories. One for 64 bit applications and one for 32 bit.

The 64 bit one is called "program files" and the 32 bit one "program files (x86)". It is important that 64 and 32 bit applications are installed into the right program files location.

The Cakewalk default location for 64 bit plugins is "program files\cakewalk\vst plugins", for 32 bit it is "program files(x86)\cakewalk\vst plugins". However for some reason your AD installer seems to have both the 64 bit and 32 bit vst directories pointing at the 64 bit one.

If you can change the installation location in the AD installer (I can't remember whether the installer allows this or not), edit the 32 bit vst location to point to the right place. Even better, if you have installed only the 64 bit version of Sonar only install the 64 bit version of AD as, unless you have another DAW installed that's 32 bit you don't need the 32 bit vwrsion of any vsts.

Sonar itself can be set to have multiple vst directories. This is set by the utilities menu/plugin manager and you can add or remove directories as needed then run a plugin scan to get them included in Sonar's plugin menus.

By the way, vst dlls should not install in the (hidden by default) program data folder but the program files folders.

Hello Everybody! I'm asking Addictive Drums 2 (XLN) if they have a fully functional 64 bit (only!) Vst version...

2."VST 64": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\) and
3. "VST 32": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\)

I need help with this: why is this error happening?

You need to change one of those paths. XLN will NOT install 32 and 64 bit version in the same folder.

I suggest:
3. "VST 32": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins\)  if you do not have SONAR 32bit installed
or
3. "VST 32": Current Installation Path: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\)  if you do have SONAR 32bit installed

Thanks!  This helped me greatly.  I migrated to a new system and was doing a fresh install of Platinum and AD2.  Worked like a charm in terms of getting the download to run properly.  I'm guessing I'll have to manually map the 32 bit features of AD2 to the Sonar Plugin menu, but that's not a big deal.
