Use the Command Center Settings Path tab to move "Cakewalk Content" or create a directory junction on the C: drive pointing to the new location (I prefer to use junctions). Assuming the new location is "D:\Cakewalk Content" to create the junction on Win8.1 and older open a command window as administrator and type:
mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content" "D:\Cakewalk Content"
on Win10 open a powershell window as administrator and type:
New-Item -ItemType Junction -Path "C:\Cakewalk Content" -Value "D:\Cakewalk Content"

Note: with either command "C:\Cakewalk Content" must NOT exist and "D:\Cakewalk Content" must exist BEFORE creating the junction.

Scook ... I've opened the command centre path settings .... there's 2 choices ... download path and content path ... I've changed the content path to D:/Cakewalk Content ... and left the download path as is ... I'm somewhat lost at how to do the next part ... How to "open a powershell window as admin ... unclear at how to do that ... and creating a junction ... don't know how to do that either ...

If you changed "Cakewalk Content" using the Command Center there is no need to create a directory junction. The Command Center should make all the appropriate changes to your setup. You can verify this by looking in SONAR Preferences > File > Folder Locations.

Jeff - I wrote the post below while you and scook were chatting, so it's probably no longer relevant. Hope you got it working.

I still think you should have gone into Preferences and told SONAR the new location of the templates. I get it that you're not familiar with Windows file structure, but that's the most straightforward solution, so let me know if you still want to try that route.

I don't know for sure, but while reinstalling might solve your problem, it also might not if you don't completely remove SONAR first, because the installer might look for existing locations. Someone more knowledgeable than I can advise you on that.

It's OK to move files around, but when you do you have to let SONAR know where you put them. That's why I suggested you open Preferences, go to File|Folder Locations, and tell SONAR where the files are. If all you did was drag the "Content" folder from the C: drive to the D: drive, this might have been as easy as changing that single drive letter in the Folder Locations dialog. But wherever your templates are now, it's possible to find them, and once you do, make the change in Folder Locations and you're good to go.

Another cheap shortcut you could try, if you can still open existing projects, would be to open one, preferably one you like and that used one of the "lost" templates, delete all the data -- not the tracks themselves, but the stuff in them -- and then save that as a template. Give it a name, and it will show up in your Start Menu when you open SONAR, and you can use it to create new projects.

I tried the changes suggested by Scook ... and thanks Scook. Still stumped because can't open a new project. Larry Jones ... I have gone to File/Folder locations and did change the default folder locations as well as in the Cakewalk Command Center Content Path so they are the same. They are now showing D:Cakewalk Content for folder locations. I might try the cheap shortcut idea ... might try that tomorrow and give you an update ... o/o for now ... gonna give it a rest ... lol ... thanks

I thought you moved your files back to the C: drive. Need to be sure where they are, then correct the path.

I did move the files back to the C drive ... from D (after originally moving C to D). Actually the files are now both in C and D. Not sure if that matters or not. What you mean by "correct the path" and how to do that?

Go to Preferences by pressing "P" while in Sonar. Or while in Sonar go to the top right below the Title Bar and select Edit/Preferences.

Once in Preferences, look to the left and you will see Audio, Midi, File

Select File/Folder Locations. Then look to the right and the second one down is called 'Templates' that's where Sonar is looking for the Templates. If they are not in the location shown, press that button with the ... on the right of the path location and browse for the folder where you put the Template files.

Good luck!

Michael ... I'm now at the Templates location and have changed the setting to D:\Cakewalk Content  ... but I know that it was originally in C:\  ... now what's confusing to me is browsing for the folder where the templates were put. What is it that I should be looking for while I browse? I know I'm close to solving this ... thanks
