I'm not sure I really care that much.

If someone says 'good job' they might mean just that; perhaps the music isn't to their taste, perhaps they don't feel willing or able to add anything further, but they appreciate the effort. I've done it myself. I think I'd rather they did that actually, than force themselves to dissect the mix or arrangement just because they feel it's the 'done thing'

I have a hard time commenting in a meaningful way on certain types of music, but it's still nice to let people know you listened.

James1213 said it best. Not everyone has the skill or the will, (nor the time in my case) to write out a long dissertation every time they listen to a song. There's also the slight chance that people are reluctant to be critical on songs, mixes, etc. after experiencing the bruising of fragile egos.
Either way, it's all good to me!

Another thing, is be honest, but also considerate. I also think if your not into a certain genre, let people know so they can decide if that genre is what they want to be posting in here. Also, a lot of people use loop and samples to create something that sounds good to them and share, so be considerate that not everyone is instrumentally inclined, but can mix things together that sound pretty good. Others mix loops and samples and also play an instrument or two along with it and so on. Basically, we are here to learn first (from the more experienced) and also to have fun and share what we have created and enjoy one another's comment sharing and communications. Most of all, do it all with love for one another. Merry Christmas to all in the forum.

Nice little recoil setup there Robbie!!

I have to admit, I've wondered about that before. I would like to think people listen before they comment. Although, I did see 3 or 4 in a row that a particular person commented on, and the person's posts were 2 minutes apart for all the posts. Hmmm... But you know, if people aren't going to listen, I would rather they say "good job" than "that sucked". I do think an overwhelming majority actually listen, though. Merry Christmas everybody!!! My wife's gonna let me unwrap my BFD3 tomorrow! Woohoo!!!!!

Personally I listen to a most of what is posted here some I comment on others I feel this way "Sorry I just can not think of anything to say that would be in anyway useful or meaningful."

I might also add "The means I liked that, it made my ears smile, it made me sit up and listen, I enjoyed it, thanks you.

with some I want to add "If that upsets you well……."

So.... I listen to at least 15 seconds of a song. By then I have a good handle on the quality of the mix and recording. I may throw in a few more seconds if there are lyrics.

If the song is ok I may comment "good job". Often these days I don't have as much time as I would like to review and comment as I would like to.

On occasion I hear something that grabs me or irritates me and I comment in greater detail. There are some times when I have listened through the song 3 or more times.

It all depends.

I know for me, sometimes I give a response that sounds canned because so many people have already echoed my thoughts, but I still want to let the person know I listened and enjoyed.  I'm guessing most of the people who comment actually listened because it just seems illogical to go through the bother of commenting to a stranger when there i nothing to be gained.  It's not like this is a forum that requires one to post feedback.  One can literally pop in at any time, listen and not say a word.

I think mood also dictates how detailed the response is.  Some of the songs here i have enjoyed most i have left the least commentary because I was tired or just simply not in the mood to write.  i think James nailed it.  A lot of people will listen to something that is not their cup of tea but want to acknowledge the person who made it because they understand how it is to put something out there and not get response.

Merry Christmas! but hehe, I've seen that. I never figured people didn't listen- just didn't wanna rip into your mix or vocal style or inaccurate playing or what're it may be. I'm getting started listening and commenting a lot more, and I guarantee- no one will be spared from the infernal wrath of my keyboard, MWAHHAAA!
