If I make a comment, I've listened. Many times, someone already responded with suggestions for improvements that I don't need to duplicate, unless I feel strongly about a point. Other times, I'll be frist...

In any event, most of us do this for enjoyment and love for music...don't sweat it Robby...it'll make you crazy, lol!

Regards,
Dan

I listen and comment most of the time if I have something nice or constructive to say.  If I don't like the song/genre, I just leave it alone unless it really needs obvious help.

On the other hand, on this forum, there are so many good writers and players that it is hard to keep up with all of it!

Happy holidays.

If someone comments,

"Good job", And then, "Way to go", And then, "I liked it", And then, "It blew me away" Etc...

On multiple songs, I'm not saying? I'm just asking... "Is it possible that they didn't really listen? But rather merely pasted in some canned responses? In an effort on many different threads to make it look as though they were contributing?"

It's a hypothetical? I'm Not implicating anyone, merely posing a Christmas question? Merry Christmas everyone!! Really, I care about you all, I like you, way to go, good job, etc.. and all that other Holiday stuff. And if you read or respond to this thought?

WAY TO GO! REALLY LIKED YOUR RESPONSE! YOU ROCK ON! THAT WAS NICE OF YOU TO SAY! GOOD JOB! YOUR RESPONSE KICKED BUTT, AND YOU'RE THE BEST!!! (in advance...)
-------------------
People I really enjoy who I've commented on repeatedly may get something similar..

It's also nice to get something specific on the song, the writing, and or the mix? Merry Christmas.

And from left field once again, God bless us all, "every one." (Tiny Tim was a suck up...)

This is a funny post but there probably is some truth in it. I guess people do it sometimes out of politeness (not wanting to offend),sometimes out of laziness (probably didnt get past the first minute) and maybe sometimes they just really dig what they're hearing ?!!!! I had a whinge about this to one of my mates not long ago and he said to me 'Kev ,your music is sh * t'
I stopped whinging about it after that !!!!
Happy New Year !!!!!

I laughed my azz off when I read this post Robbie, because I've had some comments on some of my tunes where I KNOW the person didn't listen to the song, like a guy says "great background vocals" and there aren't any, LOL,  and I thought to myself "why even bother commenting if you're not gonna listen?"
I listen to a lot more music on this forum than I post on, because if I don't really like something or don't have something constructive to say I just don't say anything, but that's just me.
Thanks for voicing something I've been thinking for a while now, made my night!

It's interesting to see people's thoughts and comments. There are so many excellent musicians here? And other's with excellent ears? I truly value (TRULY!) everyone's input. Different people have different perspectives and you will never hear your music as others do?

This is why it is so important to have people give you "honest" "critiques" because without that? You live in an echo chamber of people saying "good job!" We all need people to say, "excuse me? you ****ed up?" I am hear to say that, and I hope others are as well? I try to do so politely... There's no need to be rude.

But I also tell people when they ROCK!! Hard... Which most do? The majority who post here rock HARD! When I can offer a constructive critique? I try to do so, in a way that is "constructive" The stones said, "we all need, someone we can bleed on? And if  you want it baby, you can bleed on me..."

Oh and, BTW? YOU'RE ALL POSERS! YOU WISH YOU COULD BE THIS GOOD (points at self)

Well "some of you" are worthy? You know who you are...

:-) LOL!

If I make a comment, I've listened to the tune.  I'm not a musician per se, so I don't have the experience or the ear to really dig into the song or technique like others here do.  That's why my comments are pretty short.  If I do hear something--good or bad--I'm happy to share it, but someone else usually beats me to the punch.

I listen to every song to which I comment from start to finish. Occasionally, some songs are so bad, I don't make it to the end. However, I do make an effort to comment on something good and something that needs improved upon for each review. The unsolicited praise that a lot of people give here is actually counter productive. When people post total crap, they end up thinking it's good and never improve if all the hear is "good job". If a song stinks, it stinks, but they should at least know why and suggestions to improve.

Although, I did see 3 or 4 in a row that a particular person commented on, and the person's posts were 2 minutes apart for all the posts. Hmmm...

You might consider that "stalkng time" could be put to better use.

Just saying.

So.... I listen to at least 15 seconds of a song. By then I have a good handle on the quality of the mix and recording. I may throw in a few more seconds if there are lyrics.

If the song is ok I may comment "good job". Often these days I don't have as much time as I would like to review and comment as I would like to.

On occasion I hear something that grabs me or irritates me and I comment in greater detail. There are some times when I have listened through the song 3 or more times.

It all depends.

I'm pretty much with Herb (these days for me).

For three years every Thursday night I attended the "L.A. Songwriters Showcase" where the mantra was "Don't bore us, get to the chorus". That venue awas about songwriting and not production.

For me unless the person asks for specific/detailed comments on the mix I may or may not listen all the way through the song.

So, if I onlylisten to 30-45 seconds of a song and comment, does that make me a bad person? Does it lessen my comment to being only negligible? Does Daryl like kittens and monkeys?

As the old saying goes, in 100 years will it really matter?
