hi,
thought i would post this query here rather than upstairs as i dont want to be "encouraged" into upgrading to WIN10 and SPLAT and i might even get a laugh here or at least a sympathetic ear??

am about to have all 3 drives on my Stealth PC swapped out and realised i havent upgraded Win7Pro since it was installed 5 years ago as the advice at that time was not to connect a DAW to the net-so,i have a choice of bringing it inside and as it has no wifi, connecting to a reasonably fast modem via ethernet and downloading then updating 5 years of fixes-could take days??
or for $200 buy a new WIN7PRO and have the installer upgrade it .
i am tempted for 200 bucks to avoid download limits and errors but was wondering if there was a single cumulative update or a way to tailor updates to exclude unnecessary(to me) updates such as security updates and social media technology.
also there is the case of the virgin drivers, unkissed by the net-they must need updating??
to complicate the matter, the system is rock solid with low latency and only the very rare audio dropout from operator error so i could just clone my Program drive, install it on a 128gbSSD and bypass the whole update process ??
any thoughts?
tony

There is no guarantee that the DVD you pay $200.00 will have all the current updates in any case. How would it?

hi,
thanks for the links.
DAW was installed with Service Pack 1, 5 years ago and it`s the only major upgrade i can find since 2009.
does this mean there were no bugfixes or improvements to WIN 7 in the last 5 years since SP1.
