Hi all,

I just bought BIAB 2016 and wanted to use the Asio driver with my OctaCapture. When I do that, though, my OctaCapture disappears within Sonar Platinum, leaving me with no interface at all. There's a YouTube video (sorry, I can't seem to link from my iPad, but it is called "Sonar X1 and Band in a Box Demo by Peter Butler") where, although it's a differerent version of Sonar and BIAB, the presenter uses an OctaCapture and the sound seems quite nice.

I can't seem to figure out how to get the OctaCapture to work in Platinum and BIAB simultaneously.

Could anyone give me any pointers? It would be much appreciated, and sorry for another in my seemingly endless series of boneheaded questions,

LJ

Try setting BIAB audio to run on MME. You probably don't need ASIO performance to run BIAB as you're not recording directly to BIAB.

A quick test with my Sonar (ASIO) and older version of BIAB (MME) works at the same time.

Yes.  I have the same trouble.  Disclaimer: I'm no expert.

I use BiaB and then Real Band to generate wave files and then I drag and drop them from RB into Sonar.  In BiaB and RB I don't use ASIO, which seems to avoid the conflict when Sonar is also running.  Pretty sure I'm using the MME driver for BiaB and RB.

You may want to check out the PG Music Forums too.

I have seen this behavior as well.  I think it is a limitation in BIAB.

There is a setting in Sonar which ask if you want to allow the use of you audio device drivers to be shared with more than one program.  You have to check that box as well.

I too had the same problem when using My Octa-Capture with Sonar and T-RACKS.  After I clicked the the check box in Sonar preferences, I no longer had the problem.

Share Drivers With Other Programs.  This option allows other software to access device drivers. When this option is checked, other software can access device drivers when SONAR is not the focus of Windows.

Thank you to all of you for those helpful replies. Jesse G., I do have that box checked, but it doesn't help in my case. Maybe it's because your driver mode is WDM/KS and I'm trying to use ASIO.

I guess it will have to be MME for MM ME (ouch 😊).

Besides loading vsts and assigning sounds to slots, which is not all that quick and easy, what is the best-sounding all-purpose gm or gm2 sound set you know of? I ask because the supplied Coyote sound set has a few instruments (the banjo springs to mind) that I couldn't identify by their sound - I had to read their label - "OH! That's supposed to be a banjo!"

I know the sounds aren't going to be great, but what do you find to be the best and most accurate of whatever other sets are available? I'd rather pay a bit more if the sound will be somewhat better. I'd also rather not have to assign separate patches to slots, but just concentrate on having fun.

Thanks again and hoping for ideas,

LJ

yes, I have that box checked as well, it doesn't seem to do anything for BIAB.  I think BIAB is the one that does NOT share drivers and that's the problem.

you can set up BIAB to use the Cakewalk/Roland TTS-1.  it's better than coyotye.  this thread might help you:

it also points to a thread on the PG music forum.  bottom line is you have to have the 32bit DXi TTS-1 to get it to work with BIAB.

Thank you, Beagle! The discussion you linked to took a couple of complicated turns - I hope I can figure out how to get the right version and how to install it. I do have jbridge, but from what I read, that may not help.
Sheesh, getting a decent sound set is turning out to be more involved than I expected! And here I thought BIAB was going to be a plug and play piece of cake 🙃

AFAIK ASIO drivers are are one trick pony.  In other words you can not run two different pieces of software are the same time using the same AISO driver.  Also BiaB/RT have trouble with some ASIO drivers and the only reason to use ASIO drivers is when you are recording. Now why would you record in BiaB/RT when you have Sonar?

For the record I have always had MME drivers for BiaB and ASIO drivers for Sonar.  This way both can be active at the same time.

no, JBridge will not bridge DXi or DX, only VST or VSTi.  DX FX and instruments have to be specifically programmed to work in 32bit or 64bit applications.
