AFAIK ASIO drivers are are one trick pony.  In other words you can not run two different pieces of software are the same time using the same AISO driver.  Also BiaB/RT have trouble with some ASIO drivers and the only reason to use ASIO drivers is when you are recording. Now why would you record in BiaB/RT when you have Sonar?

For the record I have always had MME drivers for BiaB and ASIO drivers for Sonar.  This way both can be active at the same time.

Hey Mario!
actually, ASIO is not limited to one program, it's only limited to one DEVICE.  I can use Sonar in ASIO and still use my browser in youtube and have Windows Media Player and Audacity and Goldwave all open and playing/recording stuff all at the same time using ASIO.  but I can't select my MOTU soundcard AND my yamaha keyboard (which has a soundcard in it with ASIO drivers) at the same time.

but you are correct, using BIAB in MME and Sonar in ASIO does work.  like I said, I think it's a limitation of BIAB not sharing ASIO drivers instead of Sonar, tho.

Thanx Beagle for that information.  That is why I said AFAIK

My music computer is off line and the only program that I use ASIO for is Sonar.  In fact the OctaCapture is the only ASIO device that I have.

Thanx again and sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you to all of you for those helpful replies. Jesse G., I do have that box checked, but it doesn't help in my case. Maybe it's because your driver mode is WDM/KS and I'm trying to use ASIO.

I don't use WDM drivers I only use ASIO drivers for my Octa-Capture.  I just used the Pic from the Cakewalk site to illustrate where the check box was. And yes, the ASIO allows for more that one program to be used by the Octa-Capture at one time.

Hi again, Jesse G. Oh, I see. Then I guess it is really BIAB's lack of kindergarten manners (Now, BIAB, we must learn to SHARE nicely!).

Meanwhile, I'm still on the hunt for a great-sounding GM, GM2 set. Native Instruments Bandstand and Roland Hyper Canvas have been discontinued, and I'm too chicken to uninstall Sonar 64 bit, install Sonar 32 bit and fiddle with the TSS-1 32 bit .dll and then reinstall Sonar 64 bit as per the instructions to get Cakewalk TSS-1 to work. My Sonar Platinum is presently as solid as a rock, and I would kick myself if I messed it up over this.

Thank you for all your input and still hoping for a brainwave,
LJ

I have just come across JaZman SF88 (Sound Fonts). It apparently works fine in BIAB through the Cakewalk SFZ Player as the vst.

It's expensive - $89 US. It's huge - 1.5 GB. The sounds are supposed to be really good. Would anyone know anything about this?

P.S.
JaZman SF88 is 25% off with checkout code XMASFONT

Just a suggestion, you can export BIAB to midi (I don't do this as I mainly use Real Tracks, but I think it's possible) and import it into Sonar, using various bundled soft synth - Truepiano, Session Instrument Bass, etc..

I think the Sonar's soft synths are capable of sounding as good if not better than most GM and BIAB only uses part of the GM sound.
