First it was automatic plugin delay compensation, now track freeze...where will it stop? At this rate, they could catch up to SONAR 4 in another ten years!

I think that is the master plan.

There are still some cool things that Pro Tools does better than Sonar like...  hmmm, give me a minute and I'll think of one.  :-)
Seriously,  I like the extensive "import" function in pro Tools. You can import various settings from other projects into your current project. Or the ability to route one track into another and record it. That was the work-around for "freeze". What about the "aux" channel Sonar just got? That was copied from Pro Tools. Pro Tools had that ability for years. And the new Start Screen in Sonar? Copied from Pro Tools. And yada, yada, ect, ect. forever.
I really like them both (Sonar and Pro Tools).

Unfortunately, Pro Tools is not Windows 10 qualified yet.

I heard it requires a work around to load VST in Pro Tools. Is that true?

True. Pro Tools does not support VST plug-ins.
VST was created by Steinberg. DAWs that use VST plug-ins license this technology from Steinberg.
Pro Tools now use their own proprietary format named: AAX 64.
This is not really a problem. Most 3rd party VST manufacturers such as IK Multimedia, FabFilter, Waves, etc
supply both AAX and VST versions of their plug-ins at no extra cost.

If you have a VST that does not have a complementary AAX version then you could use an AAX to VST plug-in host such as the Blue Cat Patchwork. This would be an appropriate work-around.

There is actually a hidden cost to AAX, that we all pay. That's because the vendors who support it are required to pay Avid annually for the privilege. Steinberg may not be the friendliest company around, but at least they've never done that.

To be fair, Pro Tools has always been the most reliable DAW. Some of that reliability is the result of their conservative resistance to change.

I started out with Pro Tools but had horrible stability issues with VSTi's. I could not maintain a synth-heavy project in it. I ended up having to host the synths in Reaper and ReWire them into ProTools, what a pain. One thing I did like about it though was the clip list, something which Sonar could use.

But wow, track freezing. Watch out, other DAW's.

Yup! +1!!!!

And we pay those 3rd-party plugin makers to work on those AAX versions. When they're working on AAX versions, they're held back from working on new products. Waves probably appropriates WUP money to finance those AAX conversions. We pay for WUP, whether we use AAX or not.

But alas, AVID's ProTools is like Adobe's Photoshop. It's what the "industry" uses the most, what they're trained on, what schools teach, and what every successful major studio MUST provide.

Acura is another company like AVID, reluctant to be (or never is) the first out of the gate  with the latest trends. They're the turtle in the race.
