  • Acousticsamples Sunbird problem. Slow saving, huge project file size.

Hi, fellas!
Does anyone else use this library?

Today noticed an unpleasant thing - one of the projects began to be very long save (~ 5-10s delay, then save). With the autosaving every 5 minutes and periodic manual saving, the work is very much slowed down.
I found out that this happens only when UVI Engine is present in the project and only with Sunbird Guitar Acousticsamples library.

As a result, the project takes approximately +12 megabytes per each instance this library (not an UVI Engine). That is, by loading a single UVI sampler with 4 Sunbird libraries, I get a very long save and as much as 51mb project file size.

How is it with you? Maybe there is some solution?

If you have completed your editing try freezing the samples.
This will speed up load/save times.

cant say I have those lib's but thought id offer a possible work around.

I have Sunbird, made an empty project, saved it.  Then added UVI but loaded nothing, saved it.  Then added one Sunbird, saved it.  Then added 9 more Sunbirds, save that.  Here's the project file sizes:

Empty                         0.34MB
UVI only                      0.36 MB
UVI 1 Sunbird              0.59 MB
UVI 10 Sunbird            2.68 MB

Looks like each added Sunbird is only taking about 300KB for me.  But I'm not actually doing anything with them, there is no MIDI and I haven't played any sounds.

Are you by any chance also using Melodyne?  It can push up project file sizes very quickly.

chuckebaby, it's simple and effective, I'll rest this method for the end, if all other methods do not help. Thank you!

msorrels, thank you! It gives hope.
In my case:
Blank Empty Project.tpl template saved to *.cwp = 0.14Mb
Same one with 1 UVI+Sunbird = 13Mb

I tried different settings, changed the buffer size, reset configuration file to defaults, tried uncheck "plug-in load balance" (after each change, I restarted the daw) and more - everything gives the same result: long saving time and large file size...
This is very strange, and at the moment I have already run out of ideas for optimizing. But probably there is still a
component that I keep missing.

I don't have autosave enabled (I don't think it's a very useful feature) so 0 for both of those options and the Enable versioning of project (.CWP) files is set to 3.  I'm also not using any lenses.  I don't think buffer sizes or plugin load balancing has anything to do with what is saved in a project.  I'm running the most recent VST2 64-bit UVI version 2.6.14.  I can't see any version information inside Sunbird though.  I've had it since the VSTBuzz sale I think.

I think you’re on to something. I’ve also got Sunbird and at first I had about the same numbers as Matt: each added instance of Sunbird only increased the project file size with some 300 kB and I didn't have any slow save operations. The Sunbird version installed was 1.0, visible when scrolling to the bottom when the Display Window button is pressed in UVI Workstation.

So I went to my Acousticsamples account and noticed that there was a version of Sunbird available with a time stamp of March 28 2017. I knew my installation of Sunbird was older than that so I downloaded this new version and installed it. Strangely this release was also labelled 1.0 in UVI Workstation, but the file size had increased from 1,601,335 kB to 1,605,306 kB.

And now with only one instance of Sunbird in the project, the project file size jumped from 403 kB to a whopping 13,002 kB. And inserting a second instance of Sunbird made the .cwp file jump to 25,806 kB.

Something has definitely been changed in this Sunbird update. I think the quick answer to your problem is to reinstall the next to last version of Sunbird. I know I will until further notice.

BTW: I noticed in my account that both GD-6 Acoustic Guitar V2 and Telematic V3 had the exact same time stamp: March 28 2017. I wouldn't be surprised if they all share the same problem.

Interesting.  My Sunbird does have that version 1.0 at the bottom of the text description in the UVI browser (I didn't even notice it there).  The .ufs file is dated 2/18/2016 is 1,601,335 bytes and has a MD5 checksum of 104E43C8AF5D9E4CACB934F76FEA7105

Looks like they are shipping an update of some sort.  I couldn't find a change list on their website.

Canopus, great! My Sunbird.ufs is new, and has 1,605,306 kB size.
Now I have another question - where to get the previous version of the ufs file? :)

I think your best option would be to explain the problem to Arno at Acousticsamples and ask for a download link to the older version. No other way would probably be legit.

Happy end :)
I wrote a support letter and the old version of the library (4/15/2016 and 1,601,400 bytes) was added to my profile. I install it and now clean project file with one instance UVI+Sunbird have 0.4mb size.
Thank you guys for your help and ideas!
