Did they explain why the new version has such a large save format? Is it a bug? Is it a feature? Is there anything else in the newer version to make it worth updating to?

I did not go into details. Just asked for the previous version, referring to the investigation in this thread. I think if this is a bug, my letter can be the reason for its fix.
