Hi all

I decided to do a clean install of windows 10 yesterday so I formatted the drive I was intending to install to and noticed during the install that it created a partition called something like "windows 10 OEM partition" which I thought was odd so I deleted it and tried again but it still did it and I could only continue installing by allowing it to create a partition. So today I see that there is a folder that is 13GB called, "Windows Old".

I'm assuming this is in case I want to revert back to my previous version of windows but since this is a clean install there's no previous version of windows to roll back to so why is it there? Is it part of a windows restore back up where by I can set it back to it's default (fresh) install?

I don't recall windows 7 doing that unless I missed it. Has anyone else done a clean install and do they have the same folder?
It's not a problem but I was wondering whether or not to delete it but if it's part of the system restore I'll leave it be and turn a blind eye.

I know Windows always made a Window old folder when installing over a previous version but seem odd it would be there on a clean install. I will be doing that in the next few days so thanks for the heads up. It must be important and since its only 13 GB it doesn't seem harmful. Did you snoop around in there? Try doing a Google search; some one else has had the same thought about why it's there, no doubt.

Yes I have had a root inside and am pretty sure it must be a complete back up. it has the basic windows folders,
Pref.logs. Program Files. Program Files (x86). Program data and so on.

It just seemed quite big to my mind and as I said, windows old is what you normally get from an upgrade which this wasn't. Still losing 13GB won't kill me.

Cheers

My Win 10 computer did a  large update a week ago and then I noticed that folder has showed up .

I think that is there so you can restore your system to the first release.  It's not like the previous versions of Windows where it's service packs. These will now upgrade a majority of your OS.  If you are still on W7 there is a 13gb folder for that Get Windows 10.
