It worked!

A line that needed to be replaced, wasn't correctly changed.

But a next question: can the PCR system be updated?
I can't seem to install the PCR edirol V2 editor.

Cheers

In case anyone is still asking this question, Blade's fix also worked for my PCR-M1. Woop Woop!

I followed Blades steps but was not able to get it to work. When I went to update driver and navigated to the files directory it would not find the setup files. However my main problem is similar to Blade's - my PCR800 won't stay on long enough to do anything. It powers on and my ASUS Windows10 laptop dings and recognizes the keyboard but then about 8 seconds later the LCD screen on keyboard dims and then it turns off. So annoying!

Does anyone know why the keyboard won't stay on? I tried different usb cord, port, even my Windows 7 laptop it does the exact same thing. And I know I've used this keyboard with the Windows7 laptop.

Hey Daniel,

I went through the process and was able to get the system to recognize the PCR-500 keyboard on a fresh installation of Windows 10.

I also experienced the keyboard not staying on during driver detection (with the original driver INF file from Roland).  Apparently the device gets turned off after the failure to install the driver occurs.  There is nothing wrong with your keyboard's hardware.

Below are the modifications I made to the INF file from the driver package pcr_w81d_v101.zip:
Change this line:
[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.6.2,NTamd64.7

To:
[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.10

Then, changed this line:
[Roland.NTamd64.6.2]
;; Windows8
%RDID0027DeviceDesc%=RDID0027Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_0033 ; PCR

To:
[Roland.NTamd64.10]
;; Windows8
%RDID0027DeviceDesc%=RDID0027Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_0033 ; PCR

After updating the INF file, ensure that you don't have a current pending or previously failed driver install.  Run the uninstall.exe program found in the root of the driver package and restart when prompted.  After starting back up, plug the PCR-500 into your computer's USB port and then open up device manager.  You should see the keyboard show up under 'Other devices'.  Right click it and choose "update driver software...".  Choose "browse my computer for driver software" and point to the driver folder containing the modified INF file above.

You should get an error indicating that the driver isn't signed and will not be installed.  At least you now know the driver installation is at least attempting now... This is normal and part of Windows protection of unsigned/modified drivers.  As detailed here, http ://forum.cakewalk.com/How-to-use-V700-win-8-driver-in-win-10-also-applies-to-some-other-Roland-drivers-m3206046.aspx, you have to boot Windows in the mode that disables driver signing requirements.

Once booted with the "Disable driver signature enforcement" option enabled, you should be able to install the driver using the instructions above from within device manager.  With driver signing disabled, it should report successful installation and remain powered.

I hope this helps you out sir!

Just made the upgrade to windows 10 I knew of the issue with the Roland drivers' before I upgraded which is one of the reason I put it off so long. I have the PCR 300 and the hack works great! Also I upgraded from windows 7 home version and I didn't try to install the windows 8 version to do the hack.
Here is the step by step
1: make sure you have either the zip or the unzip driver files. Note if you don't have the zip or the unzip driver files yet you have the driver then download the zip file for the version you have.
2: set the setup and uninstall files in compatibly mode this will force a restart do the uninstall after you have edit the file.
3: to save a restart of your system do the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement open a Command Prompt with admin privilege then type bcdedit /set testsigning on close the CMD this will not force a restart
4: now edit the file RDIF 1027.inf there is only two lines to edit.
A: [Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.6.1,NTamd64.6.2 to %MfgName%=Roland,NTamd64.6.1,NTamd64.10

B: [Roland.NTamd64.6.1] if running windows 7 or if running windows 8 [Roland.NTamd64.6.2] to [Roland.NTamd64.10] save the changes now set the uninstall to compatibly mode this will force a restart and remove the driver.
I just now noticed that the 6.1 is for windows 7 and the 6.2 is for windows 8 as you can see I edit the 6.2 in the manufacturer line which caused the LED to shut off for a few moments it still loaded the driver yet I'm thinking that if I had changed the 6.1 the LED would not had shut off.
Last thing when you go to installing the driver unplug all USB connection except the keyboard and mouse.
Now Enable Driver Signature Enforcement open a Command Prompt with admin privilege then type bcdedit /set testsigning off close the CMD do a restart. I'm thinking this would work with clean install of windows 10 too. Do at your own risk.

I have been trying very hard for several hours to get this to work. I have the Edirol pcr 800  and upgraded to windows 10. Itry to install driver and it shuts off after a few seconds. I have been trying Blades hack but I have a hard time even finding certain things. I clicked on the unzipped driver and pressed to extract it. I tried updating the inf file I believe. It took me to a note pad and I changed the names to what was said to change them to. I'm lost. can we get even more step by step for the computer illiterate. lol I just want to get my midi controller to work. maybe I should switch back to windows 8. IDK.\

Glad you got it work - sorry I didn't get here to see your issue or I would have tried to assist.  Housecleaning and Holiday family plans won this week! :)
