It's over 400 gigabytes. Still sounds like a piano.

.... a top-of-its-class writing tool for discerning composers the world over...

I'm not sure describing it as a "writing tool" (even it if is "top of its class") is a sound marketing ploy.  Suggests that the better-sounding, appropriate-for-final-production model is coming -- at 3 times the price.

Isn't that something like perfect resolution for an ITB piano, with 127 velocities per note and all that?
Largest I have now is the ProducerVoices Grand Gold, not the full library mind you, which adds up to 435 gig.

Remember this is Spitfire, they're the U.K. version of Slate.
Fantastic libraries though.
For me the Garritan would be a better overall choice.

I am looking to pick it up. Sounds beautiful but I need to sell off one of my Novations before I can do it.

Yep, that's my go-to now & in all my templates.
Some don't care for it though. Pianos are personal, difficult to please everyone. Each has a certain criteria on how they want it to perform or sound. Rock, classical, upright..

Overkill in price and drive space.  Put a name on the product to justify the price. It's like the EVH MXR Phazer or the Dunlop Hendricks Wah.

But it had to be developed & recorded over how many months? Not exactly a cost free proposition.
Funny how people **** about how large it is. If it was small they'd **** too.
Whiners gonna whine.
