The Maillard Reaction

The new balance seems real nice.

The vocals are sitting in a real nice place.

When I was speaking of the reverb on the instruments... well, it seems like the samples, the piano etc. have there own reverb.

I think it must be baked into the samples.

I kept listening for a hammered dulcimer.

Now I realize that the harpsichord thingy is the dulcimer you have been referring too.

My wife just walked by and said it was great song.

best regards,

It's actually the Dim Pro "Dulcimer Hammered" patch/sample with no FX or treatment of any kind.

I do agree that at the end when the electric guitar doubles the solo line it sounds a bit more like a harpsichord.

I think the song would benefit from a few more syllables per line, the words are good but too stretched out.  More syllable I think would help the flow.  Good lyrics and a good song.

Hi, Ed,

I missed the first mix of this, but this is really a well written, fantastic song with a great story, and I think your vocals on this are excellent!

Nice playing on all of the instruments, a clean, full sounding mix and an absolutely great job on the vox! :)

Really nice work, buddy!

Ed - thanks for being real on this one.  The production does not matter one bit compared to you putting yourself out there on a very cool tune about you.  Loved it.  Thanks much for posting this.

Jim

Thanks for that Jim. I have tuned up the production a little. Now I'm just nitpickin' it to death.

Hi Ed - You have definitively improved the feel and mix.

The best part of all of this is that it is you all the way.  I hope you continue this trend.  I enjoy your work with you other buddies but when a song gets personal, it gets real and at that point production values become very subjective compared to the art you are creating.  I have caught myself many times enamored by the tools I use instead of what I am building.  I think many of us can tell the difference.  For your song, whatever makes you happy will make others happy too.
All the best.

Jim

Too far on the bass Ed. It is boomy here, and the kick us under a blanket.

And the mandolin is too loud. Still love the song btw - edit -- oops... dulcimer.
