Thanks to everyone who commented thus far. Whether or not I applied your mix ideas to this last version, your thoughts on how you would have mixed it were appreciated.

Purple Rhapsody
Only heard the most recent mix - and I like it. I don't have the experience to comment on the mix but I like the vocals and the heartfelt lyrics and the way that everything other than the vocal is supporting the fact that it's a story and not barging saying "listen to me, listen to me!!!!"

Cheers,
Terry.

Ed, I have a song about my fight with the monkey.  I am re-doing it now.  Your song has the same rooted lyrics, rooted in your fight for a life beyond addiction.  I was reading and listening to the lyrics and song.  There's no way for me to critique a song like this because I couldn't get past your story.  It parallels mine a lot and thanks to my lovely lady I will celebrate 25 years on the 31st of this month. I'm glad you wrote and posted it.  Peace to you brother!

Hi Ed,

Well, as usual I'm late to the party! I missed all the earlier versions but the current mix sounds good to me.

Anyway, I think the honesty of the lyrics and delivery shine through and that's the most important thing.

Great job on doing everything yourself, too!

A remix is up.

Tried some new EQ, changed the piano module (from an upright to a Yamaha C7 from Ivory). Tried to get the bass and kick tighter (EQ wise).

This is the first song I've worked with/on in over four months so it was only fitting that it be the last song I wrote and recorded.
(starting a new business is h3ll).

I hope to get some time to listen some new music here very soon.

Well, today is 7/9/13 and it sounds good to me. It does have a bit of a Dylan type vibe and does seem to be in places a bit stiff. Over all, the music sounds mixed very nicely and the vocals are nice and clear. Not a bad song at all, nicely done.

Peace and blessings, John

The Maillard Reaction

Sounds great. The improvement is remarkable.

The piano sounds a bit muted.

[flame suit on]What would happen if you threw the piano part up one octave?[/flame suit]

The Harpsicord break may be just a bit more prominent than it needs to be.

It still sounds like a great song. Well done.

best regards,
mike

Ed, I didn't hear the early version..... but this one sounds good..... I agree on the Dylan comparison.... but it's too short for a Dylan song.

I like it.
