Same with my pre "connect" Cakewalk software, and shouldn't get myself bent out of shape over it.
 
Was just taken back having to struggle with unsuccessful offline activation, out of my control with Cake for the first time in 20 years. Gave up on the ZTA update on the non internet connected computer. May be a way but lost interest. Did read thru the literature and found the process for Sonar, but not the standalone ZTA.
Tried the update on a connected computer and the process was fast and without problems. Just the unlikely scenario that if Volkswagen buys out Cakewalk, all my newer software is lost at the first computer meltdown or upgrade.
