Hello Song forum peeps. Posting this down here where it probably should be. The link goes to the thread upstairs with a bunch of details and the before/after versions. Cheers.

Well one thing is for sure. You can play.

Another thing is for sure. A guitarist mixed this.  I'm sure there are some other instruments in there (somewhere).

The newer version is a much cleaner mix but I can actually hear bass on that older one. I'm still sure there are some drums in there, I can almost hear them.

Haven't you seen a picture of Beepster Ed?  He's the one with the "More of ME in the Mix!" t-shirt on.

Fun song Beep - nice chops!  I am hearing a lot of high end though and not much on the low end.  This tune has the potential to really hurt you with bass (if you wanted it to - lol!).  There could be some separation issues (remember there are three ways to go, panning, frequency and volume).  It could be my less-than-optimal PC speaker/subwoofer setup, but things sound a bit squished together too.

(Dork Metal - hehe...)

Love the playing (wish I could play like that) & the song! But I agree with craigb; very high heavy. I would tone down the highs a bit and indeed up the lows. Having said that, it's a very crisp mix.

Nice playing Beepster! Everyone else has covered the mix issues. I like the song though!

I have to agree with bapu. That being said, you need to re-edit this so all of the instrumentation is nice and clear. The guitar dominates over everything to much. Bring down the highs, up the lows and balance the mids out properly. Maybe do an equal coming in just below 0 (left side) and ending at 0 (right side) and in the middle, say somewhere around 768-779 with a 3.1 +/_ (raise the line so it arc's upward, being more compression) might balance things out a bit. Not sure what you know about mastering, so just giving you a simple trick to sample and play around with. Play around with this back and forth till you can hear all of the instrumentation equal out. Of course this all depends on your tracks having been mixed and panned properly. Nice guitar playing and good luck with the mix.

Peace and Blessings, John

Hi, guys. Sorry I didn't update this. Been a little spaced out lately (well more so than usual). Thanks for listening. I've updated the original thread with some things I might try based on everyone's input. Indeed the hats, cymbals and highs in general will be dealt with as well as some other stuff.

lol @ Ed and Craig. I do very much suffer from guitar ear with a touch of ME ME ME syndrome. Too many years as the band "leader". Thought I was getting away from that but perhaps some professional therapy is required.

@3dmus, leadfoot and Noisy Neighbor... I'm glad you like it. Not my most creative piece but it's fun. Working on some new stuff now that'll be a little crazier.

@theguitarplayer... Thanks for the detailed advice. I'm guessing the one thing you are referring to is the -3db curve technique. I tried that at the mastering phase but I think the mix wasn't right where it needed to be so I made a bit of a mess with the LP EQ when I probably should have gone back into the mix. With all the ideas I've received from other forumites I think I've got a decent plan to get things a little better. I'll post it when it's ready. Taking a little break from it for now though to cleanse my auditory palette... which I should have done before "mastering" it the first time.

As far as panning and freq separation I did quite a bit of all that but I may go in and double check everything with the analyst to see if I can trim/attenuate anything extra. I don't have a stereo field analyzer and actually don't know much about that but maybe it's time I find a good free one and learn to use it. I think the Melda Free Suite has one and there is always the Gonio one... but I think that is 32bit so I'm not sure if that's the best option for my 64 bit setup.

Anyway, thanks again for listening guys. I'll post the new version when it's ready and if anyone has any other ideas/concepts or anything really (even fart jokes) I'm always checking the forum even when I'm not posting. Cheers!

Much valuable advice given by the other contributors to this thread, me I am just a miserable furry alien.

Well what is there to say.
It sounds very squashed.
Is there any dynamic change or is it just a continuous onslaught of sound.
Is the drummer using a full kit?
A Bass guitar would add something to this.

The guitar is played quite skillfully but does seem to dominate the whole sound stage.

Thanks for sharing sorry did not enjoy.

Hi again, guys. I've been updating the thread upstairs as this all progresses. Been through a few different versions at this point which are all still available in the first comment of that thread but just thought I would update down here with the end result.

Thanks again for listening and giving your thoughts on my little venture here. They were indeed heard and used in my attempts to fix it up. This was just a test project so everything I've learned will definitely help as I move on to bigger and (hopefully) better things.

Cheers!
