I just updated to 1511 and it took a whopping 2 minutes from start to finish.
I have an SSD C drive and fast internet connection. I also stay pretty current with the software I use.

Dang... I stay current too but it rebooted my machine at least three times and took fordamever. My computer ID was wrong for AD2 (who knows what else)... I may upgrade to W-10 Enterprise for my DAW (unless that would be a bad idea, I only want more control not more features, I don't need it). My Studiocat is still on 8.1 and I know I need to image the drive and upgrade to 10 but I really hate the whole attitude of the thing. It makes me feel a little bit violated.
Eh...
What other programs APPs were messed up for anyone? Just XLN?

You better look around. It removed CCLeaner from my computer and Norton 360 Security Suite no in no longer compatible. I guess I've been wide open for a couple of days. I wouldn't have even know if I hadn't decided to run a scan and found that Norton wont open and I get a message from MS that it is not compatible. So, I also had no firewall, I turned on the Windows firewall and will try to turn on Windows Defender until I can get this crap sorted out.
I may get a MAC for regular use and keep an offline DAW with W-8.1
I am sick of this crap, who knows what they will do next?

I tried again, I get a popup from MS in the lower right that says Norton 360 won't run on this version of Windows... isn't that just wonderful. I get it free with Xfinity and it has worked well.. until now. I suppose I am not pretected at all and MS didn't bother to tell me. That is just peachy!

jbow ,
did you happen to take a look in your file explorer and poke around in the old windows folder ?
That's where I found a couple of things like CCleaner and Adobe Acrobat
As far as the Mac thing goes I can tell you that for the past number of years (4 to 5 ) that I have only used Windows for running SONAR and a number of Win based DAW's ..(offline as much as I can )
Everything else has been done on a Mac ( including a lot of music ) I love OSX much more than Windows
If Win 10 pushes me far enough that's OK
I'm gonna try out Linux on my Win 10 machine ( in place of windows ),  that ain't a threat that's a promise

OK, I was able to rollback to the last build. CCleaner is back. Had to uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 but it is up and working again. I'll have to check everything else. I hate it that I used another activation for AD2 for no good reason. I just hope I don't have to do it again now...
Of to check firewall and services, notifications, and other stuff MS is messing with.
I'll be looking for a MacBook after Christmas. I've had it with Windows. I'll keep Windows on my DAW. Going to make a disk image of it with W-8.1 and then upgrade to 10. It stays offline most of the time so if it gives me any trouble, I'll just restore it to W-8.1 with a clone.
I've just had it. Actually, I don't remember the last time Norton prompted me to scan or the last time it updated. It may not have been working since July.. I just don't know. It is scanning now. Thankfully I have Malwarebytes Premium. It stops a lot of stuff.
Bottom line, this is NOT OK. I don't know why MS has become so arrogant.

Question? Will Sonar run on a Mac somehow? If not, no problem. I hardly ever do anything with Sonar on my laptop anyway. I can just use Logic and then use Dropbox to move to Sonar if I do anything with a MacBook.
I hope MS is happy... I'll now be a half user. A minimal user and if they mess up my DAW. I'll stick with 8.1 until I have to go completely Mac. Hopefully Apple will see an opportunity here and make it easy to run a good shell program on a Mac for Windows programs. I think the more MS aggravates people the bigger the opportunity will be for Apple to fill the void... in MS. If you get my meaning.

I've been up since 6:00 AM and have spent most of the morning dealing with this because of this Windows update. I have no idea how much longer I'll have to spend checking things.
Is it no longer true... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? What is MS thinking? What is the possible endgame here? Make all the users mad? Do they want a smaller user base? There must be a strategy, some goal.. but I certainly am not sure what it is. Another old saying that DOES see to still be true, "there is no free lunch"! I came in to this with my eyes wide shut. I should have known that free would have a bunch of strings attached. I am NOT happy with MS or Windows-10. At the same time I like the speed of W-10 but I don't like EDGE, od MAIL. I REALLY don't like MS right now.. and I do not trust them at all.

Kenny, please let me know about Linux. I know nothing about it other that I know it's an OS. Will Sonar and VSTs run on it? Is it secure? Is it easy to use? I'm interested. I guess I'll Google it in the mean time.

Thank you Kenny. That is encouraging... I am on my way. I never thought I would but I'm jumping ship. Keeping the Studiocat offline as much as possible. I'm really torn about upgrading it to W-10 or keeping it on W-8.1
I have to go online now and then to use CCC or XLN, TT, IK, etc... but I don't want MS horning in and doing something while I update, download, or authorize something... or use Dropbox.

It sux to be put in this sort of situation. I really hope this blows up on MS and they change back to a more user friendly company. A business that remembers that they need HAPPY CUSTOMERS if they want customers.
Again, I think this is a HUGE opportunity for Apple. Don't they have some sort of Windows shell program or virtual windows for running windows programs? If they could perfect that, and promote it I think they could really hurt MS and it will all be MS' fault.

I just checked my Norton history. It hasn't done anything since 9-29-15. Up until then it was running regularly... thanks Microsoft!!

>edit... now AD2 needs to be re authorized AGAIN!!! I'm just going to leave it off the laptop. I sent an email (for the record) to XLN because MS made me use an Auth and nw I need to do it again. I'll just use it on my DAW for now and re auth when I get a MacBook or Linux. I'm so mad at MS I need to leave the house for a bit, get some lunch, and calm down.

Say a prayer for me, I need it.

Hi,

Have not used Norton/McAfee for 12 years now, and I have never had a single issue with F-Secure.

When I was doing Internet Support, nothing was worse and more frustrating than having to tell a customer that they had to call Norton/McAfee each and every time their internet connection was locked out by the Anti-Virus software, that froze the passage of date and interrupted the connection. And a rest or reboot, made no difference.

You had to disable the program, and the connection magically reappeared!

Stupidest thing I have ever seen, and no explanation or ability to let folks know what they were doing and how and why, and how to fix it. But essentially, it also specified that if you were using any email client and were downloading all that garbage, that you deserved the crap and the connection locked up, and your computer screwed up!

Why are you downloading crap? Gotta ask yourself that!
