The Maillard Reaction
I wonder of bapu is referring to a character of the performance rather than how the bass is mixed with the other tracks?

For example; if that bass part was played by Stanley Clark or someone like that you might hear an occasional snap or pop, maybe a chirpping-slide-marnic, or some characteristic that made the bass line jump to the fore front of the mix now and then. That's not something that would just happen my "mixing", well unless maybe you messed with a transient designer or something.

I like the song plenty just the way it is, but I can imagine that the example I described above might add another layer of interest for listening pleasure.

I can't wait to hear your next new tune.

all the best,
mike

Mike you hit exactly on what I was wondering too. Being barely a guitarist and not a bassist and having a great bassist remark and not fully understand was he his saying...could be mixing but playing style is a major factor.
No doubt something to consider.
I'm glad it's coming across as a "tune" - thanks Mike.

Remix in attempt to address a couple of the comments.

Original still at first link for those that would like to compare.

Bravo!  Well done, Sir.

Thank you Jan.

I didn't like the Remix.

Remix 2 and I'm done with this one. Don't trust my ears with it...tired of hearing it for now and moving on. ( I purchased the Concrete Limiter and used it on this version/mix )
Any further comments appreciated for consideration when and if I ever mess with it again.

I like Remix 2 even better.

LIKE almost everything about this, but a couple of things:
didn't care for the lead tone. sounds kinda fuzzy, like a sim or something.
and the tempo change at 1:07, and the way the drum comes in, just seemed like a cut and paste, without a lot of thought, makes it feel too drum machiny at that point.
but
the slide, awesome slinky nice....
love the rhythm guitar glissando parts going throughout the main riff...
and the smooth mellow breakdown around 2:25, i really dig that.
those solo guitar tones seem much better than the higher gain ones...
i don't know what kind of rig you are using or how you are capturing your tones.....

it'd be nice to have a key change or something, say, right about the time the mellower section at 2:25 happens, it gets a bit repetitive.. it's the same riff over and over and over, but in the same key...
try a few modulations, with the same riff, will make it much more interesting
the mix is great

Thanks Bat. Appreciate the thoughts and kudos.

Thought I'd add...
As I previously mentioned a few times this was put together as a test project...not focused on it being a "tune" or "song".
Haven't been able to record in almost 3 years and now a new PC, X3 and software for RMC control with my
JBL's. (though that wasn't the only issue with them...some may remember the chemical breakdown of the cabinets which JBL replaced even though the warranty had expired...the won a loyal customer :)
All the parts were created as a variety of "sounds" I wanted to test out and see what kind of mix I would or could get and some time focusing on X3 functions/features. I wasn't attempting to write or record a "song". ( although some thinking it is-is a compliment...thanks for that)
So comments of instrument tones, song structure etc, isn't really a concern to me-the comments of the mix is and is what I'm concerned with. I believe the RMC on the JBL's is working pretty darn good based on the mix comments...finally some comfort with my DAW.
