Any users of these 2 instruments ?
I know they are old, but I like some of the sounds so I brought them while they were on sale. As they are 32bit I don't really want to install the actual instrument, just have the sounds available in Sampletank 3, which I have read is possible. The instruments them selves and the sounds come as different downloads, the sounds packs come with folders containing I guess the sounds and an .exe, I am imagining you might just be able to copy the folders without running the .exe's to a location and then import them into ST3, but I am not sure.
 
Will that work ? or does anyone know the way to accomplish this without actually installing the instruments themselves ?

Richard, I have Sonik Synth's libraries on an internal samples HD. I only know of using the import function in ST3 (import legacy samples) which worked. You'll have to name the folder and point the browser to the area where the samples are installed.
 
Of note, if you have any other ST2 libraries, you'll have to individually name them/import them into ST3 for it to work......a bit of a pain considering I have about 60GB's of samples which took some time.
 
I have all my VST's on my C: drive (software/SSD drive) and noticed that after importing a few libraries, my SSD drive was reduced in size (about 20GB's).......although the drive path for saving the ST3 samples is on my D: drive (samples drive).....I'll have to look into this as my SSD is filling up and not happy that ST3 is somehow saving it on the SSD drive.....

Thank you Mesh, that gave me confidence to try. Each of the 'sounds' download zips, 5 for Moog and 10 for Sonik had an .exe and an instrument folder, so I just copied the contents of each instrument folder and placed them in Samplemoog and Sonik Synth folders respectively, then used the import legacy thing, all went well, except for one of the Sonik files, a groove file came up with a 'conversion error' and wouldn't allow the import to work, so I just removed that file and then it completed, not really interested in the grooves any how. All seems fine, well not multi's, but I recall reading something about that not working I think.

 
Glad to hear it worked out.......yeah, I too ran into that "conversion error" problem (at the end of a 10GB library :(), but after a few tries and thinking it didn't work, I gave up. However, I later did see it within ST3 instrument/sample list (not sure if everything was converted/came across or not).
 
IIRC, the only multi's I saw were the one's included in the new (4GB?) ST3 library.....I also have a lot of multi's  from ST2....which actually sound better.
 
After all this work to get all the sounds from ST2, I'm still having a hard time in getting inspired to use ST3...............especially having Kontakt5.......YMMV.

I have 3 (internal) HD's on my machine and one is dedicated for synth samples which all my libraries are installed in. Although I haven't tried the following, I'm sure you could install the sounds on an external drive and have that plugged in when using ST. I don't know if the load times will be slower (which I imagine would depend on the USB 2 or 3 speed).
 
 
Either way, you have to have the sounds installed somewhere for ST to load them. 
 
EDIT: Grem, I'm not quite clear if I understood your question properly.....yeah, you have to import ALL the ST2 sounds/name them in ST3 (which does work).
The only issue I have is that after importing them into ST3, I noticed my OS/SSD (which only software is installed) shows a loss of considerable amount of GB space (which I don't want happening). I have to take a closer look at where these files are being imported to (although ST3 path states it's on another drive (D: drive)).  

There were a few Sonic Synth files that gave everyone trouble. I think I just skipped them, 

I had all the old synth sounds on a sample drive and I just left them there and went through the import and it was no trouble. Took a while but no issues. They got there when I was 32 bit but no problems importing when 64. 

Grem you should be good. Leave them were they are and Install ST3, put the samples in the same folder. That's what I did no problems. If you want to organize them you can cuz you will just go in ST3 and make a path after install.

Another way I was thinking of before I done the above, was to just install the 32bit stuff on my test PC, and then transfer the sounds/samples whatever over, I thought that woulod be sure to have correct directory structure, but I am pretty sure with the ones I imported SampleMoog and Sonik Synth 2, the 'exe in the zip files probably just copies the instruments and directories as they are in the zip, so probably the end result would be the same.
 
I really like a lot of the sounds in Moog and Sonik 2, despite their age and perhaps not up to today's standard of sound.
 
I am yet to install Kontakt, I started to think it may have been a bad idea to purchase it because it just opened up another slew of possible purchases staring me in the face, and I already have no trouble spending far more money than I perhaps should . . . but it is fun
