Regarding the faderport's fader, it's almost certainly the firmware version which is preventing it from working.  I had to dick around with various flavours (versions) of firmware before the problem was fixed (and that was with S1).  Lots of people have had this problem with it.

Latest is v1.3.8, available here: http://support.presonus.com/entries/20470206-FaderPort-1-3-8-firmware-Motorized-Fader-Solution

This is being presented as the version which fixes the motorised fader issue.

Yup, Leadfoot already pointed me there. I'm all good in the hood.

It's a nice surprise when it starts working :-)

I'm glad I returned my Faderport within 30 trial period. I had too many problems with it many years ago. This thread confirms that is was probably a good move to do so.

Probably a good move if you only use Sonar.
The Faderport is really an awesome tool in S1.
It is finicky with certain DAWS but with S1 it works great of course.

I love it. Bought it used from someone on Craigslist.

Faderport works great in Sonar too. Been a satisfied user for 4-5 years. And now that Mixbus 3 supports control surfaces, I'm using it in that as well!

My faderport has been a permanent fixture to Sonar for years.  Works great.

I've been wondering if my Presonus 44VSL is the reason Sonar will not work with Windows 10. I've tried 10 three times and everytime Sonar eventually will quit working. The message is always the same..."Sonar.exe has quit working". That's all it says. No crash, no error, no clues of any kind.

I'm surprised you were even able to get the driver to install on Win10. The last functional update they made to that driver was about 2 years ago, well before Win10. I had trouble with the driver on Win7, and was never able to run with a buffer of less than 256 samples. On Win10 on my Dell PC, it refused to install.

So, what's a user to do? Right. Keep checking the product download page for a driver update.

And guess what?

There was an update...to the descriptor for the download, claiming Win10 compatibility for the v1.3 driver. Ha ha ha. If it works for you, it's compatible. If it doesn't? FU. Ha ha ha.

The latest and last driver (v1.3) does not install like a Win10 driver. You might be able to run an application in compatibility mode, but a driver? Not.

My recommendation? Find a core-compliant use for your 44VSL and get yourself a Tascam US-NxN interface for Xmas. My US-16x08 is rock solid, quiet mic pres with plenty of headroom, no glitching even with a buffer of 64 samples, and AFFORDABLE for all of the i/o. With the recent release of the US-20x20 on USB3, the USB-16x08 has seen some really nice sale prices, often available for less than the US-4x4. You wouldn't regret it.

I appreciated Starise's feeddback on Nady, so I passed on their headphone amp. The only problem is that the one I've settled on (Rane HC6S) is 4x the cost, so I've got some saving to do. But I can see it now. Put the rack ears on my US-16x08, get the Rane (also a 1U device), and get a Gator G-PRO-2U-19 portable rack case for both.

Yeah, I can see it.

I'm still using Win7Pro...and the 44VSL driver from 3 versions ago. Once I got it working (at 96/24), I stopped futzing with it. I have downloaded all of the newer drivers, but I won't install them until it stops working. My next DAW will have a non-Presonus interface.

Regards,
Dan

It now works for me, flawlessly, in SONAR, Reaper, Studio One 3 and Mixbus 3.

Just what I wanted it to do.

Good to hear FP works well in Sonar for some. I tried it again this morning and even though it shows as a controller, it does not light up or activate for me in Sonar.

Are you on rev 1.3.8 of the driver? That was what worked for me.
