I loved chess as a kid (I had one of those little handheld electronic dealies because I had no one to play with on my proper chessboard). I still do but didn't play for MANY years.

Now the MS Chess that came with my laptop kicks my azz after a couple levels.

I dun got stoopider... or ole Billy Gates is cheating (that prick).

I think it's probably more a case of your laptop being 600,000,000 times more powerful than the little handheld electronic dealie you had as a kid.

Perhaps but it was supposed to be a pretty good one and it wasn't easy to beat. I'd also like to think MS Chess isn't designed to totally use all available processing power to wollop us at the beginner levels.

Seriously my strategies just got ultra sucky. Thing is I make it REALLY hard for the computer to win. Like the matches get right down to a few pieces and generally end up in my king getting chased around by a couple adversary pieces until I'm blocked in.

Total suxxors but I do take a little satisfaction in at least annoying the computer... even though it has no feelings... but I pretend like does.

There are some reports from the so-called scientist that link musicians and chess. It's an interesting theory.
I would think a lot of the thinking process in chess, and looking forward when planning a mix or arrangement would be  similar. There is also a trend of the top players in the world being very good at poker.
I'm not very good at any of it, but I have fun with the music and chess.

+1
I've also read somewhere that some very good mathematicians have been very good musicians and there's a direct correlation between the two.

BTW, Clint is a very good chess player....he's leading so far 4 to 1........to be contd.

I used to love playing Chess . In Junior High I wound up on the Chess Team as Jr Varsity  .
I guess i was team filler since I wasn't the smartest nor was I the dumbest ...that latter was soon to follow ....
Playing Chess was the last innocent thing i did before I wound up going to high school  , falling in with the wrong crowd and becoming a total garbage head in the early 70's
