  • Best way to use volume automation and balance a mix

I am sure this has been asked/discussed before but I wasn't finding anything using my limited vocabulary :-)

How do you affect overall volume of a track after you have automated volume for that track? Do you create a bus (or patch point or aux track) and route the track to that bus so that the overall volume can be adjusted?

What is the best way to handle this?

Thanks

Offset mode or select the automation lane and move it all at once.
Offset seems to be the easiest way (even though its not my first approach).
You can also send your track to a bus and use that bus for over all level control.
I personally tend to grab the automation lanes data (by selecting it all at once) and make my adjustments.

Thank you! I will give it a try.

Just remember if you do use "Offset mode" Do not forget to turn it off.
It will come to your house and raid your refrigerator. Its evil.

When I got home from work, blueberries were gone. hmmmm

I think for my use case, routing to a bus or patch point or aux track might be best. What I am trying to do is to mute one track while unmuting another. I know I can automate the mute button but I want a crossfade. That is why I used automation lanes.

I have three tracks that I did this to. If I use offset mode or just drag the entire automation curve, I will lift it off -inf, right? I think in my case, routing to another track is best.

Thanks for your help and the heads up on the raiding issue. I want not prepared for that.
