He said that Radioactive (Imagine Dragons) was the favorite song at his school (5th grade) and I told him, you know I could cover that and you could sing it? So he was excited :-)

It took me about 3 weeks and he sang it today. I'm doing the backup vocals and playing all of the instruments. It was out of my wheelhouse, lots of synthesizers, lots of saturation, lots of bottom end, and the mix is "crushed." But that's the way the cover is, and I tried to be true to it. I feel like we nailed it pretty hard :-) And he is "totally psyched."

It's at the top, "Radioactive"

**Remix1 - I added some treble to him, and an envelope for him, and also edited out some of his mic technique (or lack there of)

**Remix2 11/09, I brought the BGV up a bit, brought the snare (obnoxious part) down some (with EQ) And made some other minor changes.

I imagine he has no idea how unreal it is that his dad can just do this in his pro studio.  Man, how cool!

And he can sing too.  I have no idea how this is supposed to sound, but if he's happy, that's about all that counts.  :)  Nice one!

Nice job on this Robbie and son. Radioactive for sure. Also, listened to Green River, an old favorite of mine that I use to play in open D tuning. You did a nice job on your version and I enjoyed it. One thing, sad that Radioactive is the big favorite song at a 5th grade school, but the world is looking for change. Looks like we all might get a part of that change, whether we want it or not. Nice job to you both on this song. Always good to have fun with the kids.

Peace and Blessings, John

hey robby,

first off: to your son, you will always be the best and coolest dad for ever more! I still am (somewhat) that little boy I was in 5th grade, and if my father would have re-created my favorite song back then in his studio (I believe back then it was Sailor with "Girls Girls Girls") I would think that he is a god or even something bigger, like all gods unite or whatever, in any way the coolest thing any boy can think of! wow! and the biggest respect to you for being a cool dad, listening to your boy and making dreams true.

and regarding the 5th grade music taste: how cool is that? I really like "Radioactive", and if this is the favorite song of a 5th grade, then America's future is bright!

last, but not least: good work from both of you. I don't know if you needed a lot of polish and /or pitch correction, but the outcome is pretty good. Father and son together singing the same song, this is how good as it gets! One little, tiny point of critizism: with a cover version, I prefer an "own" version over a complete copy. But this is just my sick opion, nevermind!

Sounds like a chip off the ol block! Definitely got that compressed pop sound. Good mix. Great job father and son!
