"Hey pre-Bapu; copyright, patent and otherwise protect that Am bass note ASAP."

Oh, it's about musci production:

"Hey pre-Bapu; don't waste time trying to make everything louder than everything else. Just turn up the bass."

Don't sell those guitars in the 70's  ?
Stay analogue?
Tell EVERYONE that Napster will completely destroy the music industry  - for free !
Those PIA analogue synths might triple in value.
I occasionally get stuck with a disco song ringing out of some radio somewhere. As much as I still EyeRoll - damn if ain't nice to hear analogue tracking and real metered time.

What would you say to yourself if you could go back in time for a pep talk ?.
You have the freedom to make this thread about anything you want in your journey with music or anything you may have wish to have changed in Hindsight
Possible topics can be along these lines but not restricted to any of these  .
Music Production & tips , Gear , playing  your axe , tales from your days playing in bands , playing in clubs ,
going up the ladder , coming down the ladder, buying a 50's  Strat for a grand , selling it to pay bills and finding out it is now worth 20  + grand  ..anything you want ….nothing is off limits

Lets have some fun

Kenny

Buy stock in Fender, Gibson and Yamaha.

Stick with the AT486 PC with Soundblaster 16 sound card and really learn as much about arrangement and midi sequencing as you can.

Learn how to use a microphone and recording technique with the Teac 3340.  Record yourself, friends, choirs, whatever you can.

I have this recurring daydream where I tell my jr high school self to stop spending all that time on algebra and instead really learn the guitar and keyboard. Probably would have wrecked my GPA but I'd be a much happier person nowadays.

Get what you really want instead of wasting money on alternatives.
Room treatment matters.
A couple of pieces of decent quality hardware make more difference than a million plug-ins and emulations.
Back-ups, back-ups, back-ups.

@Rain
I gave you the short answer before because I was on my way out the door to run errands …
Yeah getting what you really want instead of wasting money on alternatives is a great one .
When I worked in music stores I would tell people that …often times the difference between getting what you really want compared to settling for an inferior product is only separated by a couple of hundred bucks or only a month or two of having to save up .
computers and some other stuff may be another story
Room treatment , OH how I wish I could go there
Your post has some cool points including the other things you mentioned.

Beepster
Dear self,

Don't screw up your back so you can keep playing live and let the nerds push the buttons instead.

Sincerely yours...

Hey Beepster ,

Find a cheaper hobby.

Craig ,
True to that in theory .  It is possible the word hobby may just turn out to be a polite social way of saying bottomless money pit
Hey , I remember a year or so ago when you had some super choice gear up on CL . Wish I had the bread at the time or even ever , my mouth was watering

good stuff fellas

Maybe I should revise my initial reply to "Learn how to protect your money so it can't be stolen by greedy financial institutions?"  I had over $130k invested in my music studio, I probably got back about $8k to $10k of that when I was forced to sell...

Hey, I know!  I'd tell myself not to spend any money on a drunken 31-day trip to Europe in 1981 and, instead, dump all of that money into a little-known company called Microsoft!

(Even if they did all look like dweebs!  )
