Maybe the bounce in your procedure is not strictly required. Also, seems like the convert to stereo is not required (it's two bounces); just change the track interleave to stereo.



 
Good thinking! But when I tried it, unless you do the bounce, the tracks won't appear as stereo. 


True, and without the bounce only one clip would be showing normally.

Thanks fellas!   I'll leverage this in the meantime and have also submitted an idea.  Right!  Without the bounce/Convert-to-Stereo, the clip won't appear as stereo .  Furthermore, operations like Split (or just moving the clip around) in the main track lane tend only affect the first of the Stereo pair.
 
Craig, I cut my teeth in the 90's on your home recording book and believe I still have it somewhere.  Thanks also for that!  
 
I was probably using the first CWPA around that time.. makes me wonder if there's a thread around here for mixes done on 90s versions of Cakewalk, that would be fun.
