  • Problems getting dowload software from M/F

I've purchased two software downloads from Musician's Friend.  Both required calls to their Customer Service to even get the link to download.  I'm through with downloaded software from M/F.

The first one, a Lexicon reverb, was ordered and paid on line.  I never got an e-mail from M/F confirming the purchase or a download link.  After 8 hours I called their Customer Service and finally got an e-mail with the download link, etc.

Yesterday (11/19) I purchased Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio, as it was at a discounted price.  I placed the order at 6:30am Eastern.  I waited 4 hours and never got anything from M/F.  I called their Customer Service and was told I would have to wait 24 hours.  This morning (11/20) I still did not get anything and again had to call Customer Service and the Service rep had to copy the page (that I never got) with the info on it and resend it to me.

I've purchased downloaded software from other places, such as Sweetwater, and the download was made available within minutes.

End of rant.

I've never bought software from MF, only hardware (which was always delivered promptly and intact). My guess is it's a different department, and the regular guy's out on holiday. Next week it may be a different story. Still, I will not be buying any software from MF after hearing your experience.

Unless you have a store credit from MF, I don't know of a compelling reason to buy software from them.  JRRShop or Audiodeluxe honor the same vendor discounts, and then usually have an additional discount on top of that.

Perfect example -- with the current Lexicon half-price sale, the PCM Native Bundle is listed at Audiodeluxe for $299 - already a great deal - but then log in, add the item to cart... and the price drops down to $233.95!

The only reason I can think of not to give these guys your business is if you're a CA resident -- then sales tax adds another 9% or so... Even then,  I'd do the math... you could still come out ahead!

I had the same problem. It says download within hours, but it took almost 3 days for them to sent the link. That's first time I've had that problem though. I probably won't ever bother with it again.

I've bought software one time from M/F. It was the Arturia Oberheim Matrix 12V synth that was on a SDotD. The license key showed up the same day, but many hours later. I remember that the wait p'd me off.

Sure wish I could try that synth. It needs to be activated via ASC (the Arturia Software Center), which installs but refuses to run on my Dell XPS8500, a pretty run-of-the-mill PC.

In any case, I won't be buying software from them again. The only time I buy ANYTHING from them is either: a) a SDotD (got my Tascam US-16x08 for $199, for example!), or b) Sweetwater doesn't carry the product, and they do, and their price is competitive.

They're owned by Guitar Center. Since the discussion of politics is forbidden in this forum, I shall say no more. Other than...

JonD, my issue (rant) was not about price, and I had no problem with the price for the particular software product.  It was on problems getting the link to download from M/F.

Yeah, I understand.  My point was, there are other, better online options.

Again, if MF has some exclusive deal, then of course, you go with them.  But otherwise, my recommendations for buying DAW software online are JRRshop and Audiodeluxe.   Even if you don't care about their lower prices.

The Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 10, $39.99 at M/F.  $59.99 at both jrrshop and audiodeluxe and I didn't see any discount coupons.

At both JRR and AudioDeluxe you have to put in "in the cart" to see the real price...

Also, at JRR, the codes GROUP (16%) and FORUM (11%) should alway be tried...
